Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
David Haye vs. Tyson Fury rescheduled for 8 Feb 2014
Former WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye will now face unbeaten Tyson Fury on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Manchester's Phones 4u Arena, following the postponement of their original date in September.
The outspoken heavyweight pair were scheduled to box at the same venue this Saturday (September 28), in what was billed as the British fight of the year, but a cut to Haye's left eye, picked up in sparring last Friday, scuppered the fight and the entire event.
Nevertheless, after working hard to secure a second date, Hayemaker Boxing and Hennessy Sports are delighted to have been able to reschedule the highly-anticipated encounter and give the fans what they want – and deserve.
“News of the date in February is music to my ears,” said Haye. “I was absolutely devastated this weekend, and felt as though I'd let a lot of people down. But now, with this new date, I couldn't be happier.
“My fans will still get the chance to see what they all wanted to see this weekend - they'll get to see Tyson Fury sparked out in a spectacular fashion.”
Since news of the pull-out broke, Haye has faced criticism from sceptics, including Fury and his team, curious as to why he chose to spar just eight days before a blockbuster pay-per-view event. Yet the former two-weight world champion insists all was on schedule.
“Sparring eight days before a fight is nothing new or unusual,” said the Londoner. “I've done this before fights in the past and never had an issue.
“Also, look at the history books. George Foreman sparred and got cut eight days before his 'Rumble in the Jungle' with Muhammad Ali – causing a six-week postponement - and Sugar Ray Leonard sparred and got knocked down five days before his fight with Marvin Hagler, but still managed to go on and win.
“Foreman and Leonard are two of the greatest fighters of all-time, so if it was good enough for them, it's certainly good enough for little old me. Not only that, those guys were preparing to face the likes of Ali and Hagler, while I was preparing to fight Tyson Fury, a man whose greatest triumph to date is shedding a few stone on Belgium's Biggest Loser fat camp.
“These things sometimes happen in training, and to suggest I decided against wearing a head-guard, or that the cut was premeditated, shows a clear lack of knowledge and understanding. This camp was no different to any other, aside from the fact it ended on an unlucky and sour note.”
Unlucky and sour, the trickle of blood from his left eye couldn't have come at a worse time for Haye. However, with a new date of February 8 to look forward to, he's ready to move on and come back better than ever.
“Tyson Fury might start to get brave now that he's received a stay of execution – and he might call me names and accuse me of ducking him – but that will all be short-lived, I can promise you,” said Haye.
“After hearing the nonsense he has come out with in the last few days, I'm even more determined to expose him in front of millions. And only the possibility of getting another chance to land punches on his massive head and doughy gut has helped cheer me up.
“The cut will heal, the fight will happen next year, and the fans will go home happy. The only difference now is that Tyson Fury gets an even nastier beat-down than he would have received first time round.
“Once again, I'd like to apologise to the fans for the inconvenience caused by the postponement, and also because they will now have to endure a few more months of rubbish spewing from the mouth of Tyson Fury. I had hoped to silence him for good on Saturday night.”
*** IMPORTANT: Tickets previously purchased for the original date of September 28 are automatically valid for this new date of February 8. Alternatively, fans looking for a refund are advised to go back to their point of purchase before October 31 ***

Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
That must mean Fury is not allowed a "gimee" fight before then.

-
Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
Yeah, he says Foreman Ali was postponed 6 weeks, Froch Ward was also postponed 7 weeks but Haye needs 19 weeks!
Basically a whole new camp!
Hopefully Tyson does get a fight in between. Take one of Hayes other sparring partners. Wach or Dimitrenko, whatever just stay busy.

Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
I have to say its about time Fury fought someone with power , I hope he doesn't pull out or make excuses.
-
Shame it's so long away but it was always unlikely to be re-scheduled in 2013. October/early November was out because of the cut, and late November/December wasn't viable because of the Froch-Groves PPV. It would be good if Fury could take a stay busy fight in the meantime but there's too much money on the table to risk it unless it's a total gimme.

Exactly. The extra delay is just about business. They can't have a PPV just before or after Christmas.

Your too harsh on fury.
Fury just wants to be the best like everyone else and so far hes still undefeated.
Im not confident of him beating haye but fury would provide a lot more heart against the klits than haye did.

Come on now. Be honest.
Did you favour fury over any of his opponents?
I never thought he would get this far..
The flab is receeding and slight improvements are happening.

Let me explain , fury had already signed to fight Haye a man with power , however Haye pulled out due to injury , hence the reversed sarcasm.
Its much better if I don't have to explain.

Fury is what he is . his fitness has got better for sure , he now looks like a fighter , however I just don't buy him as someone who is going to the top , he is to chinny and lacks power.

Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
That's a long time for Tyson Fury to wait without fighting.

Like him or not Haye accepted a fight that took him away from Pulev. Pulev may have defeated Fury, although looking at the fight with Tony Thompson (who looked even heavier than when he fought Price), again, as long as Fury fought disciplined and not offered his chin then he would quite easily out work Pulev.
Fury could now wait another 5 months and again Haye gets "injured" and pulls out in favour of a title shot.
If I was Furys manager id be looking at a fight with Thompson, Wach, Dimitrenko, Arreola etc, for November.
Thompson or Arreola would be the higher profile fighters. Arreola would be the one who would struggle with the reach and Height. As much as people would like to see him in a tough fight he might lose, if we want to see the Haye fight then he has to have a relatively easy fight and id see Arreola as the easier, more entertaining fight and a fight where he could really make a statement by getting an early stoppage.

I ,personally think Arreloa is a bad fight for both Haye and Fury , he has power and he is tough , it wouldn't shock me if Arrello beat both Haye and Fury , its a danger fight.

Fury needs to fight before february.
Shame he couldnt have a quick tear up with audley.

Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
i watched a fair bit of fury v cunningham last night
before i had haye the strong favourite but i was thinking if fury can use his size he might be able to push the fight a bit and make it very uncomfortable for haye

Fury has found his level and no other fight out there will make him half as much as this makes domestically.
It's his cashing out fight, why do you think he's willing to wait over 4 months?

Hs not waiting. Peter Fury had said they might set up 2 more fights this year for him.

Well lets wait and see , rather than take a "might" as factual.

I guess he could fight a couple of binmen on Channel 5 as glorified sparring. He's hardly going to have 3 REAL fights withing months of each other though is he?
A fight in 4 months time means he gets to do nothibg serious in the meantime, so yes... He is willing to wait.

Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
Ok, being serious, if you were Hennesey and you were going to line up a fight, who would you bring in as an opponent?
Have to be a familiar name, who will last rounds, or is known to and wont just cover up.
In fact Fres Oquendo who he was going to fight earlier this year would do!
-

Being serious if I was Hennesey id wait for the big payday from Haye.
To risky to take a big fight before that.
It not ideal being out for that long but , its about money at the end of the day.
-
Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
Someone like Fres Oquendo would be less of a threat than Cunningham was. I doubt hed be any more of a threat than fighting a british journey man but he has a more legitimate name.
Being out nearly 5 months is too much, when you factor in the last time he fought, for someone whos still learning its a ridiculous amount of time to be out before such an important fight. If he fights him in Late October or November thats plenty of time to get past any injuries. Its worth the risk. Its a necessary risk.
-
Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
All true but my opinion , is Hennessy sees Haye as the make me for life cash cow ,id be surprised if they didn't wait .
Its a bit like Bruno , he waited I think 18 months to get Tyson in 1989.
It just business.
If they take a fight before hand then fair play. But its a big risk.
-
Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
I'm shocked the fight is back on, Fury talking rubbish 5 million pound each,
as the saying goes don't piss down my back and tell ME it's raining.;)
-
Re: Haye Fury back on for FEB 8 2014
I am sure Haye himself would not be happy to see Fury risk himself against Wilder. Fury wants to fight before Haye so he will pick a relatively easy opponent so that he can get some good hard rounds in but not a walk over. Preferably on channel 5.

I have never heard that saying :-) Must be like the old wives tale that Eskimos have 500 different words for snow, the Welsh have a similar amount of sayings about rain.
