Not really. I polished off my wine, had a little vodka and most importantly finished my book before sunset. Nobody I have spoken to has been all that impressed by the ceremony. I don't believe I missed anything life changing.
I'm just glad the sports are getting going. I'm looking forward to it all. We should do well.

Well, it looks like the Team GB plan for this one hasn't worked out too well.

just flicked over - we fucked it up then?
Re: The 2012 London Olympic Games
I'm pretty sure Vinokourov is thinking of retiring this year, so I think a gold medal for him is well deserved. GB couldn't get anyone else to chip in, and they couldn't catch up. Hope Wiggo has plenty in the tank for the time trial.

No Missy we didn't.
Had no chance as every single other team refused to do any of the work to close the gap.

The Khazak is a former doper. Not well liked. And has 'retired' a few times before for small periods of time.
No and GB did not fuck it up. You seriously have no clue.
Cavendish and GB had no chance once the race developed that way. As much chance as Usain Bolt in the 10000m.
Re: The 2012 London Olympic Games
The British tactics were pretty much perfect. But basically because no other team wanted the race to end in a bunch sprint (as Cav would win that) the team had no help at all to bring back the breakaway group. Now, in the Tour de France with a 9 man team it is possible for one team to do all the work and still win. In the Olympics with a 5 man team that is impossible. Therefore the only chance was if one other nation had also decided they wanted a bunch sprint and thus helped the peloton to catch the breakaway (Germany only real chance of that) but they did not. Therefore, through no fault of their own (just the nuances of road cycling) Great Britain (Cav) had zero chance. That's how it works.
Re: The 2012 London Olympic Games
There were 70 men in the peloton that needed to chase down the 30 man breakaway. Of those 70 only 4 men put the work in at the front, Stannard (GB), Wiggins (GB), Miller (GB) and Froome (GB). That is the simple reason why it became impossible for a sprinter to win.
Like Cavendish said most teams are happy to not win as long as Great Britain don't win. It's shit but that is due to the strength of our team overall and having the world's best sprinter.
