Who came closest to KOing or stopping Ali? 1960-1978
He got droped by Henry cooper and was baddly hurt imo.
The 11th round of the first Frazier he was in a lot of trouble but bluffed his was out of it.
But the closest he came to getting stopped IMO was against Ernie shavers but was once again able to con his way out of trouble.

If the left hook that Fraizer caught him with in the 14th didn't KO him nothing will, I'd say thats the closest an he just got up and shook it off. That was PRIME Ali, clean on the chin an straight up he was awesome.

Gotta be Henry Cooper. If Ali's glove hadn't ripped in half (by total accident of course ::**), he'd have lost.

Dont you mean 15th round.
He was in a lot more trouble in the 11th round of that fight.

I agree.

Never, never and never. Cooper's hook was good but not enough to keep Ali n troble
Ali had great recupperative powers and he would have found a way to win this one also

Then why slice his glove in half? Did a naughty, mischievous leprachaun do it for no reason? Damn them pesky leprachauns.

Yes he was badly hurt againest Cooper , but he wasnt Ali at the time he was Clay so technically he didnt ask us that :)
Re: Who came closest to KOing or stopping Ali? 1960-1978
I see Henry Cooper because had it not been at the bell or had Dundee not cut open his glove he would have lost. I think that Frazier gave him most overall punishment in any one of their fights than Ali received in any other fight before Holmes, and I think Shavers hit him the hardest, but I think Henry Cooper was the closest to knocking him out because essentially he did knock Ali out.

Re: Who came closest to KOing or stopping Ali? 1960-1978
Earnie Shavers had Ali in major trouble and to this day Ali admits had Shavers had just gone all out he would have been stopped
Re: Who came closest to KOing or stopping Ali? 1960-1978
1 Coopers hook in the 4th
2 Joe Frazier flooring Ali in 15th
3 Earnie Shavers overhand right in the 2nd round.

Ali only had 7 seconds extra time the controversy was smelling salts which i don't think were allowed in UK at that time i heard somewhere.
