Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Let’s say it takes place November/December this year, what exactly will Whyte have to do to get the win.
If he wins, he still gets the winner of Fury/Wilder 3 on December the 19th..if he does lose again, then it’s back to square one.
Would bringing back Mark Tibbs as head trainer add anything else to his game?
Do you even want Whyte to win?
Povetkin v Whyte 2 - December 2020
Can Whyte turn it around in the rematch? He should have come out throwing non stop bombs in the 5th not sat back being "non greedy" as his corner badly advised him.
You drop a guy twice with 70% power shots you go after him with 100% power shots and finish him off.
Few little adjustments and Dillian should win by stoppage next time out but Povetkin has his number now and just needs to land that left hand once.
Still a pick em fight for me!
Re: Povetkin v Whyte 2 - December 2020
Whyte UD.
He's going to be extra cautious next time out because he knows Povetkin carries dynamite.
Whyte might even force a stoppage late if he gets more aggressive because Povetkin's punch resistance is on the wane & he's not getting any younger.
Re: Povetkin v Whyte 2 - December 2020
I think the complete opposite, if I was Whyte I'd be looking for the KO early, he dropped Povetkin with 2 punches that weren't full power shots pretty easily so that definitely tells us Povetkins punch resistance has faded.
Wonder what Mark Tibbs made of last night?
Re: Povetkin v Whyte 2 - December 2020
I’d fancy Povetkin to do a repeat job.
Pressure all on Dillian.
Not many win a rematch after being sparked clean out. History tells you that
Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Joshua v Pulev
Fury v Wilder
Whyte v Povetkin
That's some run up to Xmas if these do happen in December
Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Whyte goes down hard against Povetkin the ref doesn't count the full 10. Fury goes down just as hard against Wilder but the ref counts the full 10 and Fury get up to get a draw.
I can't stand the refs who waves fights off without counting the full 10. Makes my blood boil.
Yes. Whyte would not have beaten the count anyway. But that's not the point. From 1sec to 5sec he was in the exact same comatosed state as Fury.
There needs to be mandatory rule that you always give the full count of ten.

Do you suspect the ref last night was a racist? ;D

Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Whyte cannot win the rematch. He's been sparked out cold and you cant forget that shit, it haunts you. If he has any chance at all he should just try to blast him out in the 1st round or maybe fight at a distance and keep him away with a long jab, counter him rushing in, move to the side.
I see Povetkin landing another crusher in about the 5th again, maybe not a one punch nuke, but a combo, another KO.
Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Whyte has had a lot of wars and taken many punches.
Maybe his punch resistance is waning, we will have to wait and see.

That punch would have sparked out pretty much anyone, I don't think you can question someone's ability to take a punch when the punch in question was quickly nicknamed The Uppercut From Hell on this forum.
From Whytes perspective he will prefer to get knocked sparko with that one punch rather than take a sustained beating for 12 rounds.
Listening to his post fight interviews he seems to be taking the L pretty well (Wilder should take note) I hope he gets the rematch in before Xmas and I'd like to see him get the win next time.
Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Doesn't look good for Whyte even if he wins the rematch.
WBC President pretty much saying the whole cycle will have to start again.
Only bonus to all this is that we should see Joshua v Fury sooner.

I think you have serious issues, you'll be telling us that Howard Foster was Gingerphobic next because he stopped George Groves controversially.
Re: Whyte vs Povetkin Rematch.
Anyone else a bit sick of these rematch clauses in any semi important bout?
Especially when these guys fight once a year or so. And it generally is always the case of when the guy that was supposed to win losses. Why didn't Parker get a rematch against Whyte for instance? He had him in all sorts of trouble at the end buy lost on the cards, rightly so. Maybe there was a rematch clause they wasn't taken up, I don't know, but my mind says that's unlikely.
It'll never happen because it is kind of a safety net for a promoter to get their guy back in to make up for the loss, but they should probably only be allowed to exercise a rematch clause if the fight was a close fought contest. As in either both guys went down at some point in the fight (maybe one got the stoppage eventually but was in trouble earlier), or the case of Whyte-Pasrker above warrented a rematch or if it the fight is a close decision.
