Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
This time, Hearn reveals positive doping test
Former world cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk's heavyweight debut has taken another turn, as his opponent appears to have tested positive for abanned substance. Promoter Eddie Hearn tweeted, "We have been contacted by VADA [the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency] to inform us that there has been an adverse finding in Tyrone Spong’s test. It has been sent to the State of Illinois commission and further information will be released in the morning. We have reserve opponents standing by." ESPN reports that Usyk definitely will not fight Spong this weekend. Spong is 13-0 but was previously a champion kickboxer with 100 fights.
Usyk has not fought since last November. His heavyweight debut was delayed once due to injury. Usyk-Spong is shceduled for October 12th in Chicago. [Critics of Eddie Hearn will note that he did NOT make a public announcement when his boxer, Dillian Whyte, had an adverse finding. Whyte was cleared to fight anyway by the British Board of Boxing Control and defeated Oscar Rivas].
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Read a little about this, makes Hearn look shady, maybe it has to do with VADA being a more competent outfit than UKAD as well. The two cases couldnt have been handled more differently, and what happened in the Whyte fight is a joke. Does anyone even know where that stands, all this time later? Also see that Chazz Witherspoon is the last minute replacement:rolleyes:
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
It’s too bad that they just couldn’t have had Chisora and Usyk fight. That would have been better. I feel bad for Usyk.
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Usyk is having no.luck so far in the Heavyweight division.
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Hearn is definitely a shifty fellow :sneaky:. Fair enough it's short notice but they can do better than Witherspoon. Poor guy has fallen flat at every step up and even got pulverized by an ex football player ;D:-X. Now this is when Hearn needs to get on the horn with Michael Hunter Jr and make at least an interesting rematch for both fighters now at heavyweight. Guarantee he'd jump at it, still fresh and active and be much more competitive than ol Chazz.
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Failed drug test, interesting, I didn’t even know Spong was a Matchroom fighter.
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
What's the shady shit, Spong failed Vada Whyte passed. The Illinois commission would have dumped Spong.
And Whyte says he is clear to fight now, will definitely be back in Nov/Dec, he's currently on a big popular BBC cooking show, which is probably something to do with the delay to this shit. I expected him to be cut from the recording after this scandal broke but he got to the final week
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Fenny supports UK PED users, shocking

Matchroom are the only UK promoters who pay for fighters to be tested and are also leading the pack worldwide when it comes to testing fighters.
Meaning they pay out of their (Hearn) own pocket for these test also meaning more fighters on Matchroom cards will be caught out.

Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
It's a shame Usyk's heavyweight debut has stalled and stuttered, went from a quality heavyweight debut (Takam) to Spong (who in the fuck? i had to look him up, great kick boxer/chin/punch, but boxer? Err.. OK) and now Witherspoon, which isn't any worst than Spong.
Does anyone think Uysk wouldn't box the bollocks of any other heavyweight "his" size? Ruiz? Wilder? We've already seen him handle the human mudslides son in the Ams/WSB with relative ease.
What he lacks in power/strength will be offset by skill/mindset like Holyfield.
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
I do not begrudge Usyk having an easier opponent since he is coming back from an injury, moving up to a new weight and therefore not fought in a long time.

Doesn’t matter when you can pop hot for D-bol and UKAD will keep it hush hush for you. Unless of course someone starts releasing the information every time they keep it hush hush.
Don’t forget the illegal gloves too. This is just 1 fight I’m talking about by the way. Multiple ways of horrible cheating in this fight. How long is his suspension? Yeah, no high ground
Oh, but he only had traces. Yeah, because Dianabol has a 3-6 hour half life. But but but he passed VADA. Yeah, because Dianabol has a 3-6 hour half life. It’s an experienced cheaters(who has been caught before) way of cheating. If UKAD didn’t suspend him, how long did noble Matchroom suspend him for PEDs AND illegal gloves? Yeah, no high ground
Re: Spong out of usyk fight due to positive doping test
Honestly just now realized Bivol was on the card as there has been very little of him lately. Seems they could have pulled better than the 15th ranked Castillo as opponent and should be safe work. Not the deepest card but glad Usyk is finally officially getting his foot in at heavy.
