It is not like McCracken doesn't know anything about helping fighters to let their hands go and go to war. Froch even with his hands down style was hardly a gunshy defensive master. Usyk was the first southpaw Joshua had fought since destroying a very limited Charles Martin and it proved to be a big factor. Usyks performance on the night and Joshua's decision to come in smaller than usual did more in nullifying AJ's reach and power punching advantage than any tactical choices by McCracken.
Usyk upped his game considerably on the night with a superb display of concentration. If Joshua wants to be more unpredictable then coming in much bigger and changing his coach might help, but if he had let his hands go like he has in previous fights, McCracken would not be made the scapegoat he seems to be now.
Nobody but AJ can change his pyschological approach and changing his coach might be more about AJ signalling that than any great tactical overhaul.
This sentence sums up the article for me: ‘To teach a man to be a dog he has to have the dog instincts in him already.
What I've been stating. I'll be bold and say nothing changes, Usyk remains champ. Shields IMO will be way worse. He's the one trainer that overkills with instructions.
Lost count of how many times he said to Juan Diaz, "Look I need you to get in closer. And I need you going more to the body and I need..."
The last few seconds of the fight- was not told to him- fall back to the ropes, don't throw, swag the tongue and smile. That's when the dog should've came out...if there is one, might be a London Terrier.
If this talk about AJ asking someone to “bring the dog out of him” is true , I am seriously concerned for him.
Does he think he’s Rocky going into Creed’s old gym in Rocky 3 ? Eye of the Tiger and all that.
Fuck me!
Teddy Atlas is the modern day "Mickey". . Joshua could go for that option.
The more I've thought about this I've come to conclusion the Rocky III style is the only way he can win.
I look forward to the rematch.
Bet he ends up back with McCracken after shopping his wares like a Home & Garden show ;D. And that's not bad. Really, the problem is between his ears and at this stage completely on Joshua. Don't blame the vehicle if the driver pulls over at the first sign of rainfall :-X. But let's not pretend AJ doesn't know about stepping in and swapping shots trying to take space and end nights too. He's done that.. been rocked and pushed ahead. But that's gone now.
In Bold right there. This dude came back from Wlad dropping him, had me sold that he could bang. I just can't get out of my head those last few seconds, laying back trying to do rope a dope. Damn, fight back!!!!
unless.....;D
