What are the best British comedy series?
Having just worked my way through the entire lot of Only Fools and Horses (wonderful with such great characters and stories), I am looking for more things to watch. I know series like Fawlty Towers from memory and have watched Blackadder, Bottom, and Father Ted a lot. I am moving into comedy as frankly I am getting a bit worn out from politics and the crazy people. If you are going to be crazy, then it should be like Father Jack and funny.
What would you say are the funniest and best British comedy shows?
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
That surprises me because you are usually into British Institutions. There is nothing shit about it. As far as I can see it has all you would want in a comedy and it is hardly The Vicar of Dibley or My Family. Now they are what I would define as shit, but Only Fools and Horses is up there with the best IMO. I am very fond of it. I don't tend to laugh very much, but it makes me laugh, so it has to be doing something right. I don't remember being into the Fast Show, but I don't know the other one so will search about it. I quite like Johnny Vegas.

Now that I'm all growed up I like Partridge, Nighty Night, League of gentlemen, Phoenix Nights that kind of thing.
Things like Bread, Some mothers do ave um, steptoe. They all warm the cockles of my heart. All funny programs, watched them all as a family when I was a kid so that adds a little mustard on top. No internet, Dad in control of the remote, one tele, no xbox........awesome.
Things like OFAH, Til death us do part, porridge. For me they are as funny now as they were when new and always will be.
The young ones is something I loved as a kid but now, I just dont see the attraction. Same with Bottom.

You know, monarchies, UK, all that fuddy duddy kind of stuff! Variable opinions are valid in this thread. :p
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
Some good calls. I don't watch much TV so I just want my TV to be completely enjoyable for an hour or so each night. No stress about politics and rage at CNN, just funny, funny comedy. Have I got News for you is another funny one, but that is funny rather than stressful.
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
Open All Hours, Benny Hill, Terry and June, Citizen Khan
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
Father Ted is IRISH, not British!
However, if is brilliant! Of the old classics I do like Only Fools, also Partridge, One Foot in the Grave, Blackadder and the rest.
More recently, I loved Goodness Gracious Me and The League of Gentlemen too
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
OFAH is timeless. Can't say that about many
I liked Young Ones and Bottom too back then - find painful to watch now.
And Men Behaving Badly these days, again doesn't stand test of time.
Hated Dads Army and Fawlty Towers. Didnt get Monty Python.
Loved the Inbetweeners recently - will I say that in a few years time ??
I'm Alan Partridge for me still the guv'nor - ask me again in 20 years

Big brother uk 2014! Cant stop watching it!
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
Twenty Twelve and The Thick Of It, have that satirical spin that Yes Minister almost perfected.
Re: What are the best British comedy series?
Have you seen much of QI, Miles? Stephen Fry is the host and it's really good, I've been watching it a bunch lately. Some of the comedians he has as guests aren't stellar, there's one woman who is never funny that is always on it for some reason, but it is very good trivia at the same time.
