The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
With a loaded division, he continues to fight barely passable opposition. Now it's against Simpiwe Vetyeka on December 6, 2013. At some point in time, we need to stop taking John seriously. That time is now.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
I gave up on that poser about 2 years ago.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
He's been doing this forever, still holds one of the belts doesn't he? Doubt he'll ever try for unification or anything and I don't know how some of these guys get title shots against him. Must be able to sell tickets at home fighting pretty much anyone.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
I love watching him box but this bum tour is getting old.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
John is getting old and isnt the pure boxer he used to be. He's now more flat footed and has becone a boxer-slugger type without the power.
Arum needs to make him an offer he cant refuse and make a donaire fight
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
It's a shame some of these skilled guys choose to just be legends in their own country instead of fighting for legacy by testing themselves consistently on the world stage.
Chris John was a hell of a boxer but what does that mean when you're not fighting world class guys each time.

Yes because Mayweather has been jumping at the bit to fight dangerous fighters in their prime out of his home country. Talk about double standards
Listen say what you want about Rios, Guerrero and Ortiz in terms of quality as opponents, but John's been really stretching it with his last half dozen opponents. He hasn't fought a top ten opponent since Yordan, if you considered him at that time a top ten fighter.

I think you are being a bit generous. You have to go back to Juarez. Johns an odd duck. I think he has like a real belief in karma or something. He pays Marquez peanuts to fight him at a parking lot and loads the deck against him and claims to be the best feather in the world. They decide to travel Stateside finally and showcase against Juarez only Rocky neglects to read the script. He manages a draw in a fight many thought he lost and then managed a win. I guess that left him with a bad taste in his mouth so he decided to snail back up and stay near home and finish his career in mediocrity.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
This will actually be one of his better defenses. Vetyeka a good fghter. Them fighting in Australia is a good thing for him. He might get a fair shake. 50-50 fight

Really? I'm not familiar with him. In any event, John's the man at featherweight and I can't think of the last time he faced a true top ten caliber fighter.

He's not an elite fighter. But anybody that calls him a bum clearly hasn't seen him fight. He's a good, solid fighter

Hopefully, he takes that 0 then.
Re: The time for taking Chris John as a serious featherweight is over.
In his defense, Vetyeka did beat Yordan whose regarded as the second best fighter of Indonesia..
Just because a fighter isn't a household name doesn't mean that they are bad fighters..
But my problem is, at John's level, he needs to fight nothing but the best.. He's beaten too many decent fighters like Vetyeka..
