Default Paul Gascoigne - What a shame

Paul Gascoigne in emergency detox after hospital drama | Mail Online

I see Paul Gacoigne is having problems yet again. Of course most of us of a certain age will recall his beautiful football in 1990 and a career that stopped and started thereafter. He seems to have been in the wars a bit with his drink battles and is once again trying to get better after a battle with the bottle.

I am shocked by these pictures, and though no spring chicken, Gascoigne looks very old, worn and frail. If only he could get a little support and guidance. When somebody does that to themselves it is easy to say 'Well, he shouldn't have been a piss head', but someone like Gascoigne is clearly ill and needs protection. You don't get into looking like that for a laugh. I thought the image was altered at first, as he looks really strange.

I think Gascoigne could do with 6 months in rehab and why should these things be really expensive anyway? If someone wants to sort themselves out, then why is it a rich mans hobby? The poor and Gascoigne seems to be heading that way are largely left to drink and die and is that fair? We can provide for anyone who opens their legs ('because there are children!' says the politician gleefully licking his lips), but a sick man wanting to get better has to spend tens of thousands on rehab which is essentially a cash cow.

I know Gascoigne has had it good in life, but I feel sorry for him. Thoughts?

The great Bobby Robson said a year or so before he died "it's up to Paul now to help himself". I agree

Gazza has been given a lot of support and assistance - he was given a pundit job by ITV, a managers job, coaching offers but fucked them all up. I seem to remember friends paid for him to go into rehab last year too.

I'm all for giving people this kind of support but there comes a point when you can only try so far and then say fuck it.

Gazza pressed the self destruct button a long time ago. I fear the worst

It's Pauls life......he has the tools to change this path, but he chooses this way.

He will die a drunk and hopefully his family get over the pain because it's the family and friends close to Paul who will suffer the most....not Paul

I am shocked at how he looks. I do not think he will recover from the dependent drinking.

He looks like he is on his last legs, the drink has aged him badly but he can only help himself,
no one can stop him drinking, it's a shame but George Best was a example of what can and
does happen, he was given a second chance and wasted it.
Pauls liver must be fucked, if not I'm a Dutch Man pity.

I feel no pity for him , he had the world at his feet but hasn't got the brain power to handle it.

    47 year old looking 77.

    Who cares anymore.

George best had a new liver and still ruined that one and gazza is going the same way.

Hes a grown ass man with kids letting a drink control him..dump him on a island with all the other timewasters.

(Sorry, but he should know better.)

It's all self done, but I sometimes thing we judge all drinkers the same. Gascoigne took it so far that I have seen him on stage doing weird tremors like he was on a great fault line. He clearly took it further than most and on that basis, I think he is sick. There is simply no fun to be had shaking like Ali when it is only the drink.

It's the classic disease. It creeps up on you all your life, but then your career is done at 35 and you are loaded, off you go. It's a shame and the injuries likely helped him on his way.
