    Default MLS Playoffs

Coming up here in a few weeks are the MLS playoffs. If any of you are even remotely interested in the MLS this will be the time to watch.

    Schedule as follows
    October 28-31 Conference Semi's 1st leg
    November 4-7 Conference Semi's 2nd Leg
    November 11-14 Conference Finals
November 21st MLS CUP - BMO Field Toronto

    Teams Playing
    East
    1. New York Red Bulls
    2. Columbus Crew

    West
    1. LA Galaxy
    2. Real Salt Lake

    Wild Cards
    1. FC Dallas
    2. Seattle Sounders
    3. Colorado Rapids
    4. San Jose Earthquakes

As it stands now (all four wild card teams are in the Western Conference) FC Dallas and Seattle will be playing in the Western Bracket, while the Rapids and Quakes will be playing in the Eastern bracket.

So the brackets should look something like this (may change as there are a few games left):

    West Bracket
    LA Galaxy............\
    Seattle Sounders..../

    Real Salt Lake......\
    FC Dallas............/

    East Bracket
    New York Red Bulls.......\
    San Jose Earthquakes.../

    Columbus Crew..........\
    Colorado Rapids........./

Two game home and home aggregate for the first round.

i think one of the problems us europeans have with MLS is that live games are in the middle of the night, i mean i can watch football all day @ the weekend if i wanted - english, scottish, italian, spanish, dutch. i will never get my head around groups? just have a league then we can see who really is the best team & i think there would be more interest around the world.

It's really an American thing, because the country is so massive, the powers that be decided to split into two divisions East and West. The Concacaf Champions League is a simplified version of the UEFA Champions league.

Playoffs opening kick starts in about 15 minutes

    Colorado Rapids hosting Columbus Crew

    Rapids at -110
    Crew at -120

Crew would normally be heavy favorites, but starting GK Wil Hesmer is out with a fractured right shoulder.

Colorado's power forwards Conor Casey and Omar Cummings may be able to capitalize on that.

My money is still on the Crew with their more intelligent play (as opposed to Colorado's brute force tactics)

Beautiful quick double pass from Colorado - Cummings to Casey to Mastroeni right in the net
    GOAL Mastroeni 24'
    1-0 Colorado
Half Time - Colorado really dominated the first half, Crew not getting posession, not getting a rhythm and just giving in to Colorado's bully style.
    Fulltime
    1-0 Colorado
Columbus gave a good effort to close it out and were robbed of corner that could of equalized.

Galaxy is gonna get embarresed worse than their game against the Islanders in Concacaf Champions League.

Colombus almost a chance here in the closing minutes, most of the game I've had RHCP "Give it Away" stuck in my head.

    Two Games today 10/30/10

FC Dallas hosts Real Salt Lake @ 5:00pm EST
The defending champs Real Salt Lake in their playoff opener, FC Dallas will need to rack up a large margin this game to have a chance in aggregate.
    Odds
    FC Dallas = +110
    Real Salt Lake = -140
    Draw = +225
    1st half
Espindola receives a nice looping pass cuts back and fires a left foot rocket into the upper left corner from outside the box GOAL 5'
    1-0 RSL
Cunningham works his way against 3 defenders in the box taps it in to the lower right corner GOAL 44'
    1-1
Half Time - very even first half, tons of turnovers in the midfield, after heavy early pressure from RSL, FCD started to break through with multiple shots on goal in the last 10 minutes. be interesting to see how both teams react in the second half.
    Second half
Morales (RSL) gets a second yellow from a high challenge on to red, RSL down to 10 men. 50'
Attiba Harris (FCD) heavy challenge with an elbow to the head straight to red 10 men for each side 75'
Avila (FCD) makes a mad dash from mid field into the box strong right leg bullet GOAL 88'
Full Time - RSL really playing nothing but defense for most of the second half until an extra time heavy push but to no avail.

San Jose Earthquakes hosts New York Red Bulls @ 10:00pm EST
Thierry Henry is ruled out of this game, so Angel and Richards need to fill the role, two of the faster more dangerous strikers in the league in key games. San Jose brings Wondolowski the 2010 Golden Boot winner with 4 goals in the last week of play to surpass season long front runner Edson Buddle.
The quakes also has a very tight defense. This should be a very entertaining match.
    Odds
    San Jose Earthquakes = -105
New York Red Bulls = -125
    Draw = +225
    First Half
both sides double team key players and the play is limited to the midfield.
    Half Time
    Second Half.
    Lindpere GOAL 56'
    1-0 Red Bulls
    Full Time
