NSAC DECIDES MAY 8 IS THE DATE OF CORRUPTIONS EVOLUTION
LAS VEGAS -- Nevada's boxing authority has filed complaints against boxer Zab Judah and two others for their roles in a melee during a welterweight title fight earlier this month.
Police had to intercede after an altercation broke out in the 10th round.
The filing came a week after the Nevada Athletic Commission fined trainer Roger Mayweather $200,000 and revoked his license April 13 for illegally entering the ring in the April 8 bout.
Mayweather entered the ring in the final seconds of the 10th round after Judah landed a low blow on his nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr., sparking the melee. An attorney said Wednesday that Roger Mayweather would seek reconsideration of the penalties.
The commission on Wednesday filed the complaints against Judah; his father, Yoel; and Mayweather cornerman Leonard Ellerbe.
Zab Judah was being investigated for hitting Floyd Mayweather in the back of the head shortly after he landed the low blow; shoving two commission inspectors; and punching Ellerbe in the back of the head during the ensuing brawl.
Yoel Judah was being investigated for throwing a punch at Roger Mayweather, and Ellerbe was being probed for illegally entering the ring.
All three men face fines and either suspensions or license revocations, said incoming commission executive director Keith Kizer.
The complaint against Zab Judah also details his $75,000 fine and six-month suspension for throwing a stool and shoving his gloved fist into referee Jay Nady's throat after his Nov. 3, 2001, knockout loss to Kostya Tszyu.
"Prior conduct of this type will absolutely be considered," Kizer said.
A meeting is tentatively set for May 8 at 10 a.m.
