Ouma would love to fight Taylor!

    August 21, 2006
    http://www.fightnews.com/1237.htm

When Kassim Ouma heard last Friday (Aug. 1 ESPN 2 boxing analyst Teddy Atlas mention a potential Ouma-Jermain Taylor fight for the world middleweight title in December, "it was one of the happiest days of my life," he said.

"I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jermain Taylor as a person and a champion and it certainly would be an honor for me to fight him, even if it has to be in his town (Little Rock, AR)," said Ouma. "Big fights like that get me pumped up."

Ouma, like everyone else in boxing, had heard Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella say that he (DiBella) wanted to get Taylor an easy fight after going back-to-back-to-back with Bernard Hopkins (twice) and Winky Wright.

DiBella even mentioned Bozo The Clown as a possible foe for Taylor.

Ouma says he would wear a Bozo The Clown outfit into the ring.

"And if Jermain really doesn't want to fight me, what about Winky or (Antonio) Margarito. Everone is saying how 'bad' Margarito is. Well, let's find out how bad he really is. Let me fight him!"

Says J Russell Peltz, who co-promotes Ouma with Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Priductions: "I have no problem with Jermain Taylor fighting Bozo The Clown. My problem would be with HBO televising it. HBO and Showtime fights should be for the crème de la crème, not for tune-ups. In years gone by, when fighters would ask for tune-ups, we would tell them to go to the auto body shop.

"Throughout the first 60 or 70 years of the 20th century, when champions wanted easy paydays, they boxed non-title fights scheduled for 10 rounds. Some of those so-called easy fights were as tough as championship fights.

"I remember when Willie Pastrano, after he stole Harold Johnson's light-heavyweight title in 1963, got beat up in a non-title fight afterward by Gregorio Peralta, of Argentina. Then they made the rematch for the title and Pastrano won on cuts.

"Same thing happened a few years earlier to Archie Moore, who went to Italy to pick up some easy money in a 10-rounder with Guilio Rinaldi, and lost. The next year Moore defended his light-heavyweight title against Rinaldi in Madison Square Garden and won.

"My point is that Taylor should do whatever he wants, but HBO should only the best fighters in the best fights. That way, we won't have to watch mismatches like Roy Jones vs. Ricky Frazier or Bernard Hopkins vs. Morrade Hakkar."

Ouma is a very very good boxer however i see Jermain stopping him, i just feel Ouma needs a few more fights before taking on someone of the calibre of JT.

Ouma against Taylor is a mismatch. Ouma walking into Taylor's punches isn't good, he still gets hit too much.

Agreed, I think Ouma is too small and gets hit too much....TKO for JT, Ouma is a tough SOB though

    Probably resemble the Marquez fight.

It's funny but the guy on the contender Grady Brewer who's fighting at 147 for the show fought Jermain Taylor and gave him hsi toughest test(before Hopkins) Maybe Ouma thinks he can do the same. But his style isn't suited for it. He has talent and may be the most talented otu there, but too big is too big, it would be like when Meldrick Taylor fought Terry Norris.

I've said it before, Ouma's a small jr middle so why move him up, this early in his career, to middle. It doesn't make sense. Its the promoter's job to look out for your fighters best interest, Kassim's not scared, that's one of the reasons I like him, he's willing to fight, but the promoters should know that moving up to 160's not the best move for a small jr middle.

Its not Taylor so much although I do respect him, its moving up that bothers me, Ouma's actually got a very good style to beat Taylor. Taylor's conditioning has been a bit suspect, he's gassed out a bit in fights that weren't very high paced which plays into Kassim's hands, and he has very poor infighting skills, which also plays into Ouma's hands, but the size difference is going to be almost comical. Were talking about really a 168 pounder fighting at 160 versus a guy that could probably make 147 fighting at 160 and I think that might just be too big an obstacle.

THat makes a whole lot more sense... But I would be surprised if Margarito accepts the challenge, Ouma would handle him.

I'm sure Ouma would love to fight Taylor, he come to fight & make it interesting. But Taylor is the better fighter. I don't see Taylor KO'ing Ouma but would win an easy decision.

I would much rather see Ouma move up to 160(if he has to) and fight Soliman instead of Jermain Taylor

that would undoubtedly break the record for most punches thrown in 12 rounds--possibly at any weight. it would also be an easy victory for ouma.

I'm not really too keen on Ouma,he has great stamina etc but he looks lazy at times and his punches lack snap, they seem like punches for the sake of it. I don't see how he can move up,he looks kind of skinny for the weight now,and I think JT would beat on him!
