    Default Just Starting

I am about to start boxing this coming August. Is there anyway I can start to condition myself before I start?

Some tips on boxing would be good to know also.

The only way to get into boxing shape is to box. From reading other posts getting cardio fit will help out when you first get in there. You wont tire as quickly.

Hey AdamGB,remember when I asked you aaages ago how much I should run,I can now do 6 miesl easy, with lots of hills involved! So I was wondering whether I should run with weights on my back? What would be the benefits?

Run with a pack on your back (buy a decent backpack, no 'my lil pony' rucksacks lol).

The benefits would be adding resistance and forcing the muscles to cope with more weight other than your humble self whilst running.

I'm in two minds to be honest, a weight on your back will help your endurance more than anything else and in theory your Anaerobic threshold during your sprints. In theory... to an extent... It starts to get more complicated with sprints, its not just a case of adding weight for better results, it limits the speed and strength yo can turn into 'power' during a sprint and whilst you may think that this would help you develop more power its likely to just lower the quality of you training.

Personally I'd intensify the sprints by either going harder, longer, faster or doing more sets of them...

Or preferably of that all of that :P

CC for coming on in your training (24... gave you one for the weight gain post )

dont use ankle weights IMO, they can lead to knee pain

stick to weighted vests or rucksacks for runs

yep start with ur running to increase your stamina etc... and try a bit of skipping. Maybe some calisthenics, which are body resistant exercises such as press ups, crunches and chin ups etc...

    Good luck
