Action News 5 (wmcstations.com) and News Channel 3 out of Memphis are both confirming that Memphis Mayor Willie W. Herenton, a former champion golden gloves boxer in his youth, is in-training and will return to the ring to box former world heavyweight champion Smokin' Joe Frazier in Memphis this fall!

The Herenton-Fraizer fight is reported to be a way to raise money for the Mayor's cash-strapped alma mater, LeMoyne-Owen College.

Action News Five reports: Herenton is training for the three round battle with Frazier to be held at The Peabody in September!

Mayor Herenton is a four time Tri-State boxing champion, but never turned Pro.

The Mayor is 65 and Frazier is 62.
