Default greatest heavweight: Muhammad Ali or Joe Louis

who do think was the all time greatest?

could a prime louis beat ALi?

ali had much better oppositon than louis, ehe beat 2 indestrutible fighters
liston and foreman--he even made them look bad.

after watching joe louis fights--joe's got a great chance to beat ali, he would have to eventually catch him then land a deadly combo to finish ali.

however the whole time ali would jab louis face and rearrange it. land some combos on joe and mayb even ko joe.

this fight could go either way--i think louis does have the potential 2 beat ali and even ko him---however i can see ali winning by UD.

but who was the greatest--i dont know

Ali by KO or UD. Bigger, faster, better movement and ring generalship. I don't really see a single category where Louis is better.

I dunno its a tricky one.

It would be easy to assume that Ali could just dance and jab his way to victory for 12 rounds. But on the other hand, joe was very effective at moving in on an opponent and i think he could pin him as ali started to tire in mid-late rounds. However, Ali had great recuperative powers, as displayed against Joe Frazier in their first fight and in a fight between the two, i think Ali would get up off the canvas in the late rounds and box his way to a UD over Joe.

I agree. There is nothing that Louis is better in, No category unless you want to mention heart which they both had alot of

Louis was a better short puncher - he had much greater kayo power than Ali ever had, and he delivered his combinations just as fast but with more power as he was closer to his opponent.

Louis was also more intimidating than Ali, people were genuinely scared of him (but not Ali so much)

Ali would win. Joe never fixed his flaw to be open for a right hand. and I doubt he would let Joe get that close.

Louis did not like movers and clever boxers

Louis was the best boxer, never over extended himself, only punched when in range, could KO you at anytime, more power, power in both hands, no he didn't like movers, he was a stalker but he got his punches off faster than say a Marvin Hagler or another stalker type fighter.

Ali was bigger and faster but I think Louis was the better all-time fighter.

vs each other I'm sure Ali would win but hell everyone picks Ali vs anyone, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko...guys who would dwarf Ali and punched harder and straighter than anyone he had in the division at his time.

Because Marciano would be beaten handily by Ali and a Prime Joe Louis not to mention Larry Holmes

And if anyone thinks Joe could beat Ali watch the Arturo Godoy fight again or Joe Walcott, Joe was still a sucker for a right hand which Ali had a very dangerous one.

Rocky would have been smaller than all those guys but he wouldn't have backed down from fights vs any of them.

Joe was 78 years old when he fought Walcott!!! People say he was old when he fought Rocky, well he was old when he fought Jersey Joe too!

The style still gave him trouble Lyle. It's about style. And it doesn't answer for how he struggled against Arturo Godoy Like I said the styles always gave him trouble. And A Prime Louis would beat Marciano.

Frazier was quite a bit bigger than Marciano, so I'm not sure the analogy gets you there.
