Default Calzaghe turned down catchweight fight with Johnson!!

No official source, bt firstly Calzaghe apparently offered Glen johnson a shot at 168, when Johnson said he couldnt make the weight, Johnson came back with a catch weight not to sure at what weight, but Calzaghe and his team declined, i read this on Hatton's forum, i dont understand Joe and his team?? Why wouldnt he take this fight if he is seriously looking at Tarver in the fall?? This is a perfect fight at 175 to see exactly where he stands, but again Franky and Joe fail to deliver.

Boxingtalk just spoke with former world light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson, who has been proposed as the opponent for Joe Calzaghe when the reigning world super middleweight champion makes his HBO decut in July. According to Johnson, the neogtiations have reached an impasse over the issue of the contracted weight limit for the fight.Johnson informed Boxingtalk that although Calzaghe had offered Johnson a fight, the offer was unacceptable because Johnson would have had to come down in weight too much to take the offer seriously. Johnson said he counter-offered a different catchweight to Calzaghe, but neither side could agree. Boxingtalk will continue to stay on top of this story as negotiations are likely to continue.

Come on Joe this is crazy. He wants a lot of respect and wants to be known as the best but he don't wanna fight the best. Why would he even offer a fight to a guy who has been at 175 for a while. He knows johnson can't make 168 and why should johnson cater to him. At the end of the day johnson has been in with hopkins, beat roy and tarver. I don't rate johnson that high but because of what hes done i would rate him over joe. If joe wants to fight at 175 then fight stop being a punk with all this catchweight crap.

Ive always favoured Joe to beat Johnson but being in teh States is where its at . The big fights have come Johnsons way with wins over Tarver and Jones . Calzaghe would present a bigger threat but if Glen is wise which he is , he'l focus his energys on getting a 3rd fight with Clinton and leave Calzaghe in the cold once more

Glen Johnson is a great boxer, he is getting a little old now, but he has some great combinations he can hit from any angle
I think Calzaghe would gain a lot of respect from American fight fans just from taking this fight.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

If Calzaghe took the fight at a catchweight, he would only have 4 moths left after the fight to defend his belts against someone ranked in the top 15 by the WBO + IBF or they would strip him of his belts.

So with him looking to move up to fight Traver, or the chance of him hurting his hand if he fought johnson, or after the fight then there is a valid reason why he wants to fight at SMW. Hes not to far off beating Joe Louis' record for being the longest raining champion; why f*** that all up to fight johnson at some catchweight?

Well i think he has 4 months to defend against a mandatory unless he gets an injury or gets permission from the sanctioning bodies(wbo, ibf) to take another fight and defend later

    This right here is retarded!

Joe should take this fight, beat Johnson, & then use it as a stepping stone to fight Tarver after Tarver beats Hopkins.

    WTF is Joe/Frank thinking?!?!?

This makes it seem like Joe wants to sit on one huge win for the rest of his career. Thats not the case but if he really will fight anyone like he says why say no? Especially if he can beat a guy that beat Tarver and if he could do it more impressively then Hopkins did.

I honestly don't believe that he could do it as impressively as the Nard did...I mean...that was a beatdown & I think that Johnson is much more established at 175 than he was at 160 or more than Lacy was at 168.

That beatdown by Bernard was raw.

i couldnt agree more. this stinks!!!

calzaghe says he wants big fights, heck he's got one on a plate and he's turned it away....

calzaghe has no opponent, and fight night weeks away....he will fight some bum and the way things are going then big fights will elude him in the future...

    he SHOULD fight johnson.....
