I think were all agreed what happened last night was disgraceful in too many ways. Us, the fans were robbed of the chance of a great spectacle. Corrales was basically robbed of 1.2 million with the world watching and the chance to prove himself a HOFer.
Now the big question. What will happen with the future of these fighters, both who are already long in the tooth and need to make moves fast.
First Corrales.
Poor Diego, this was his big fight. His Hagler-Hearns, his Ali-Foreman, his career defining fight. Hes been robbed of this in such a cruel way, what else is there out for him?? Does he face Popo Freitas, who he should handle with ease, or similarly Juan Diaz. Neither of these fights will make the money or leave the mark this fight of but they seem the way to go.
However I do see one way Diego could try and at least make similar money, and possibly carve out some gorgeous fights. Look five pounds below you Diego. Manny Pac, Erik Morales, MAB. If Diego calls out any of these guys and can get them to move up and fight with one or more of them over the next 2 or 3 years, we'd have some awesome fights on our hand and money makers for all concerned.
Now Castillo. IMO there is no way Castillo should be allowed to fight Cotto or Hatton or anyone for that matter for the next year. Even if simply was a case of him genuinely missing weight, the guy lied to everyone, telling us everything is fine, and not giving Diego a chance to consider a catch weight or pulling out earlier.
More to the point. Did you guys see the weigh in?! Castillo looked like a freaking ghost. He was skin and bones and looked like everything was sucked out of him, and he weighed 140!? Shouldnt we be considering wheter he can even comfortably make 140 to fight Cotto? I dont know that he could have had much strength the way he looked last night.
There are still possibilities for great fights for both fighters. Boxing and everyone involved here needs to move on and try and get such things sorted so we can forget about this whole sordid incident. What ya'll think?
