Why not unify the belts?

World cup is on at the moment and it has made me think. Why don't every 4 years unify the belts in every division through a knock-out (no pun intended) tournament?

Something along the lines of you have to hold one of the 4 major belts to get into the unification competition. That way the belts would be regularly joined up for some true champions.

Wont happen though as it would not be very good for Don king and the others wallets

Surely when the big divisions with the big names would be unified, then it would be a much bigger moneyspinner because everyone would be getting in on the actoin, even only the casual boxing fans.

And it would further increase interest among novice fans to the sport in the same way that the Ashes in the cricket does, or the Rugby World Cup too.

in the end yes. but you have the wba belt. do want to fight the wbc champ , lose , then trying to get another shot(2-3 years later, if ever)?

If, hypothetically, such an event as this came through, then it would have to be done with the full co-operation of the governing bodies, and especially would have to see the governing bodies make such an event mandatory for the boxers, so that if they don't fight, then they forfeit the title, or if they are injured (those sprained fingers could be viral!), then they have to be lined up for a fight with the unified champ.

If you're thinking of plotting something to happen at one of the huge bills, with all the big players at ringside, and an extremely dodgy lihting rig? My official line is don't do it!!!! Muahahahaahaaaaaa
