We need a welterweight tournament

Why doesen't boxing have major tournaments. 147 would provide the best bracket. But out of these boxers I would expect Margarito and Mayweather to face off in the finale.

I think that there is huge amount of wasted talent in the welters right now, because of politics and lack of willingness to fight.............

If it's a welter tourney Margarito has to be in it, but you'd also need Baldomir so at least the winner would be champ.

If they did this tournament you would have to include the belt holders, so that way the winner would be the unified champ. You would need to expand it to at least 8 (4 belt holders, + 4 top contenders). No matter who you include there will be cries of not including somebody.

I would like for them to take the 4 belt holders have them fight their #1 contender then the winner moves on. The likely hood of any of this happening is about as good as me becoming heavy weight champ.

Amen brother! It wouldnt even be that hard for boxing. They just need to make sure we the fans get at least two fights per month of X champion vs #1 contender of whatever weight. There are enough weight divisions that each champ would only have to fight their #1 once a year. It would give a nice variety to us the fans.

I agree there hasn't been much lately... but the fights have been there. Judah/Spinks. Margarito/Cintron. Gatti/Damgaard. Judah/Baldomir. Judah/C.Rivera. All top 10 guys fighting each other, but I'd like to see the big 4. PBF, Margarito, Hatton, Baldimor
