    Bouncer guilty of uppercut murder
A bouncer and former boxer who punched a man so hard he fell to the ground and fractured his skull has been convicted of murder.

Garry Delaney, 35, who denied murder, lifted Paul Price off his feet with the blow, the Old Bailey was told.

The trial heard Mr Price, 23, had gone to remonstrate with Delaney who had thrown his friend James Farrell out of a hotel in Woodford, east London.

Delaney knew the punch would cause "really serious harm", the court heard.

Delaney was seen to hit him in the face with an uppercut which lifted him off the ground
    Alan Suckling QC

Mr Price fell backwards and hit his head on the ground, fracturing his skull.

The trial heard he had been turned away with Mr Farrell from an over-35s disco in October 2005, for not meeting the dress code.

They went to the hotel's bar instead, but the barman thought Mr Farrell was being "troublesome" and asked Delaney to remove him.

The trial heard Delaney then appeared to spray Mr Farrell in the face with a substance that made him scream.

He dragged him outside and dumped him in shrubbery which led Mr Price to go outside to "remonstrate verbally" with Delaney, the court was told.

"Delaney was seen to hit him in the face with an uppercut which lifted him off the ground," said Alan Suckling QC, prosecuting.

He said Delaney was "an experienced professional boxer who would know such a blow done deliberately by him was likely to cause really serious harm".

Delaney, from Newham, east London, had fought at light heavyweight and cruiser weight and was working as a licensed doorman when he killed Mr Price.

He is due to be sentenced on Friday.

Now I remember why I never took up boxing myself :P

Damn, that's gotta suck. I hear if you beat someone up, they'll go worse on you if you're a boxer or martial artist of some kind.

That Delaney guy should get sentenced for murder...I dont care if it was accidental you cant just kill someone and get off the hook. Especially since that guy was an ex-boxer he has to know the damage a punch like that can cause. Granted, he was probably just expecting to f*ck the guy up real good but even so...

Speaking of which It doesnt take much to f*ck someone up! I got into a fight at a bar about a month ago and I took a few punches in the face...nothing big, nothing even hurt they all seemed like jabs at the time (granted I was drunk). Then I wake up the next day and my face looks like it got hit by a freaking truck! Had a nasty, bloody black eye and the whole right side of my face was swollen, discolored, and bruised. It took about a week and a half to heal and I had to hear, "Oh my god, what happened to your face!??!" about 30 times a day lol.

And that kids, is why you dont get into street fights.

He never demonstrated that kind of power in the boxing ring .

I remember him getting stopped by Bruce Scot and then both men chatted in the dressing room after . Delaneys woman was there too and she looked like shed been picked up from a club . Not bad ( I wuldnt say no ) but he wont be picking up birds anymore cuz he deserves to be put away .

Hes a big heavy guy picking on a kid

I'm no expert, but to get convicted of murder doesn't there have to be intent to kill? Not condoning what happend in anyway, but I am sure he didn't mean to kill the guy.

Yes, but at least here in the states if you are a professional martial artist or professional boxer (even retired) your hands and feet are considered lethal weapons, so in the eyes of the law it would be like saying I didn't mean to shoot him dead, just fuck him up. Bottom line he killed a guy, and what was his reason to begin with?

i aggree that a Proffessional boxer should know that he could cause serious damage to anyone with a punch. And using the skills he obtained to intentionally hurt someone is wrong, and that person should be punished. HOWEVER, We dont know what happend, and i know first hand, that when its known that you EVEN GO TO A BOXING GYM, everyone wants a piece of you.Even if you dont intend on making it a career, everyone wants to take out the "boxer" (doesnt mean it goes for this case, because none of us have seen a trial, or anything else.). Im not saying he isnt guilty, but i wouldnt be surprised if he was getting pushed around by someone WITHOUT a uniform. I have seen lots of cases in my area with "bouncers" not having a "staff" shirt on of some type, and trying to kick someone out, only to get ktfo in the process because the person getting "bounced" didnt know who the F*** it was pushing them off the stool.

    Just a thought

We can only assume that there was no provocation of any kind, if there was he would have had something of a defence, it would appear that he didnt.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

he didn't kill the man...hitting the ground fractured the man's skull which then resulted in the man dying....I would be shocked if he got anymore than manslaughter...if that...

exactly......it wasn't like he beat the man with a ball bat or shot him...he hit him.....reckless endangerment/assault.....maybe manslaughter....definitely not murder.....

i actually know of 1 doorman thats boxer and 2 that are kickboxers and 2 of the 3 are grade A pricks. he may not of battered him or intended to seriously hurt him, but im confident he probably didnt need to do what he did to the poor drunken chap in order to sort out the situation.i have several friends who are amatuer boxers and when im out with them they will do almost anything to get out of a confrontation with other drunken members of the public. that delaney bloke jus seems to fall in to bouncer arsehole category, although you would of had to be there to know
