Default Jay Nady – another very poor ref performance.

Should Jay Nady ever be allowed to ref a big fight again after yesterday’s performance? Once again we saw an American ref helping and protecting the “native” American boxer.

In many situations it looked like Nady was a member of team Rahman.

I just watched the final round. What the fuck was the man doing ripping at Rahmans glove tape? It meant it needed to be repaired twice, once to cut off the damage and once to re-tape it, they could have just taped it back up if he had left it alone.

On second viewing Im not so sure that the tape was coming loose at all. The video quality isnt great on youtube so perhaps someone who wathed it live can help. Did it look damaged at all?

These refs. need to be investigated and it is really throwing more fuel on the antiamericanism fire.

lennox lewis is getting REALLY GOOD as a commentator, last night was by far and away his best performance (and he did a damn good job last fight)

Nady was involved in some of the worst boxing officiating in the past

So I take it you think that the stoppage on the Zab-Tszyu was a bad stoppage?

All I saw was the last rd. of rahman-maskaev IMO it was a good stop rahman was a done deal. Regardless of how much time was left or what he had done in previous rds.

The stoppage was fine but it was not okay that Nady throughout the fight was attacking Oleg for holding and then when Rahman needed to rest and survive then he didn’t asked Rahman to stop holding. Rahman was holding Nady, Oleg and Oleg’s legs without being warned or asked to stop. That was not fair when Oleg could not even get close to Rahman before being warned from Nady.

The famous “glove trick” that Nady ran in the start of rd. 12 to let Rahman get extra time to relax and breath was very bad sportsmanship and fortunately the American audience also responded with buhs.

I don’t see how you are able to get a point of bringing the Zab-Tszyu stoppage into this fight?

Nady was wrong for calling Maskaev for holding so frequently and so quickly. But in his defence I think Maskaev made things difficult for himself by holding alot early on, I think Nady thought he was stopping a problem before it got started, of course he had no idea if Maskaev was going to hold or not because he was in like a flash.

Wrong, but I understand what he was trying to do.

I would have to disagree about the holding. IMO there are two types of holding, one you hold for the sake of holding (ala ruiz) and then there is holding because you are trying to keep from getting KOed. Two seperate types of holding.

    Sure.

I saw the fight...finally...& it wasn't that bad of a ref job.

Maskaev was doing, IWO, a good bit of holding in the first half of the fight & it switched to Rahman doing a good bit of holding in the last half of the fight...until he got dropped.

I thought that Nady did fine.

This happens in Germany alot...but once again...you only dish on the American aspect.

    Interesting...well...no not really.

Me too. I think Nady is a Royal Member of Team Rahman.

He probably won't keep his position long though. Know what I mean?

It wasnt the best refing in the world but like wacko said, it paled in comparison to some of the refing and jugding going on in Germany, the main culprits are the EBU, they are thieves.
