While HBO manager Shelly Finkel and IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko would be happy to quickly move to make a November unification fight with brand new WBC king Oleg Maskaev, the Russian born American's trainer is insisting that his fighter will not be fit by then.

Citing a dislocated finger, sprained back as well as the cuts, bruises and swellings sustained in the upset win over Hasim Rahman last Saturday Maskaev's trainer Victor Valle told boxing writer and agent Mike Marley on FightNightNews: "November is just too soon. Even if (promoter) Dennis (Rappaport) wanted it, even if Dennis said let's do this November 11, I would tell Oleg no. We have a good team, Oleg, me, Dennis and Fred Kesch. We have good teamwork. I think both Oleg and Dennis realize that my opinion matters.

"I just don't see any reason for us to rush into another fight against anyone right now."

Klitschko's other mooted opponent for November and Madison Square Garden is Shannon Briggs, the underachieving New Yorker who hasn't won a meaningful fight since he was gifted a win over the ancient George Foreman nine years ago.

To be honest Maskaev would be sensible to stay away from Wlad...there are easier big fights Maskaev could be taking...

As long as the belt holders start to fight each other I don't care... multi belts aren't as bad in other divisions because there is diverse talent there... you can tell who 'The man'... at heavy weight they're all so dull its a pick em, even in the case of Wlad to an extent.

Why not fight Liakovich then? It would have been nice for Brewster to have won that fight to set up a rematch but I'm interested to see how Sergei fairs against better competition.

It would have been a good choice to put off the Klitschko fight if Oleg was a young and up and coming title holder

    HOWEVER

Oleg is old and he fought Rahman like an old man so how many fights are left in him and if he has to fight either Sam Peter or James Toney his days as champ are numbered!!!

oleg is coming off a couple of hard fought wins. he should enjoy his title and defend against a lower top 30 fighter. But he needs to stay active cause the clocks not on his side.

If Toney wins he should fight Toney at least there he would have advantages in power. But there is a point about Klitschko: it could mean alot of money and a decent chance to become a historic name; take Klitschko into the late rounds and crack him on the chin like he did Rahman.

it has nothing to do w/ who hes fighting ...he shouldnt fight AT all till december atleast ...he should have a month to heal ...a month to condition ..and a month of fine boxing camp ..MAYBE if the fight was late nov. but were talking about nov 11th
i dont dislike or care one way or the other about Oleg but it would be stupid to fight so soon unless he was basicly unmarked last fight

I think I agree. Although if Toney beats Peter, maybe Oleg could make better PPV money against Toney. I'd favor him to lose against any of the other current champs anyway.

This fight coming off would be a negative agianst both fighters.

#1: It's way to early for Maskaev to fight again, IWO.

#2: Briggs could whine & cry about Wlad dodging him & also...it wouldn't be very gentleman like of Wlad to bail on a contracted fight...verbal agreement or no.

#3: I want to see Wlad kick the shit out of James Toney or Shannon Briggs more than I want to see him blast Maskaev out of the ring.
