    Urango Camp Sets Record Straight

14.08.06 - Keith Terceira: Swirling rumors surrounding the next scheduled fight for IBF light welterweight champion Juan Urango has forced Coalition Boxing (Urango Management Team) to publicly answer some questions concerning whether the next opponent will be Hatton or a Golden Boy fighter. Luis Navarro, head of Coalition spent some time with me today and made the following statement..

“It has come to my attention that many boxing fans are speculating that Lazcano or another Golden Boy boxer may be Urango’s next title defense. To set the record straight Coalition Boxing and Juan Urango have no intentions to fight Lazcano or a Golden Boy fighter in the immediate future. No deal has been reached or is one in the works. We are currently gearing up for a defining bout. This fight of a lifetime has already been signed and a tentative date and venue has been scheduled”

Navarro confirmed that the fight of a lifetime he mentions is Ricky Hatton and that the deal is signed and sealed. The bout will happen in Atlanta on December 8th.

“There are no plans to fight any fighter from Golden Boy, the only one we would consider fighting would be Mr. Golden Boy himself. We have had informal discussions with Golden Boy but we have had discussions with 20 people in the 140-147 range including Floyd Mayweather and decided on Ricky Hatton. Urango is young and he is in great shape and will be making his mark before the end of the year. We have had a signed contract to fight Ricky Hatton now for a few weeks. “

Coalition Boxing based in Miami has been focusing on Urango as well as on a stable that will feature 135-147 pound fighters and currently has a working relationship with prospect Richard Abril (5-0 1ko) and co-management interest with John Wesley Jackson (6-0, 6ko’s).

“We are searching for fighters to assist in the lightweight to welterweight range and are actively recruiting Mexican fighters who have reached a level or 10-0 or so that need expert management, with our current crop of fighters we can offer some opportunities that others cannot.” Navarro stated.

Decent fight,a title will add more glamour to the JLC fight but Hatton best pray JLC is allowed to fight! I take Hatton via stoppage in this.I expect him to smother Urango.

    1. Who cares? Terrible fight.
    2. This won't add any glamor at all to a JLC fight. Hatton is already the linear, undisputed champ at 140. Picking back up one of the three alphabet straps that he abandoned won't add a lick of presige to a JLC fight--that fight is huge already (and Hatton better not duck it).

I don't remember wich fight but Urango looked tired and was eating alot of uppercuts at will and got lucky landed a hard right put the other fighter out. worst part is the other guy had some kind of a gut going and looked out of shape and was winnig. I predict he gets beat down buy Hatton.

Urango by knock out. He can't fight, he has no defense and his title was a gift. By he does have good power. And Hatton ain't to hard to hit.

He'll be hard to hit for Urango... Did you see his last fight against that Aussie fighter? Dear god, he could make Hatton look like Mayweather... This is a terrible fight though, just shameful on Hatton's part, imo.

Hatton hasn't look good lately, I wouldn't be surprised if Urango upset him. Urango got the gift decision agaisnt ben, but Hatton is no proficient boxer.

Did you see Hatton's face after the last fight? And that was against the light-punching Collazo. But I agree with you that it's a terrible fight. And I have no faith in Urango. I don't think much of him at all and will not argue on his behalf. I'm only picking him cuz I think Hatton will under estimate him like he did Collazo. And unlike Collazo, Urango can atleast crack.

Bad matchup, but at least it should be a decently entertaining fight while it lasts cause neither guys a runner by any means, although it probably won't last long cause well, Urango's kinda shitty. Power seems to be overrated, not much in the way of skills and is pretty much just a headhunter. Hatton in less than 8.

What will you guys think if Hatton is taken to the trenches or does not stop him? Will you be unimpressed? I think he needs to make a statement and I think he knows that too!

I don't think he can make ANY kind of statement against Urango.

I like Hatton and I've defended him but one more fight like this and I'm off the bandwagon. Hopefully its Castillo or maybe Cotto next.

    Agreed, Ouma

Im dissapointed with this matchup...even if Hatton looks impressive it doesnt change a lot in my book. He definately needs a big fight after this underwhelming filler....
