What exactly does this victory mean?
It doesnt mean a damn thing in my book.
it means he can retire with a win
It means that Jeremy Bates will have a chance to redeem himself against Audley Harrison soon.
For Evander, well maybe with America's last line of defense breached last week, he could be the first counter attack!
Go Evander!!!
LOL....Evander vs NicolayOriginally Posted by bilbo

I think of all the champions he could go in with, Valuev is the most beatable.
I reckon there is about a 75% chance of this fight happening providing Valuev beats Barret.
And if Barret wins there is probably a 75% that he'll fight Holyfield too.
Against either of them Evander has a chance, against the others he will get hurt.
Against somebody with a pulse he will get hurt. I believe at this point he is a tragedy waiting to happen.Originally Posted by bilbo

I've been a life long Holy fan, and the last several years have been pretty painful watching him go from a phenomenal fighter to a can. I almost didn't watch tonight, I was glad to see him looking good, but how long can he fight with that energy...6 rounds...8 rounds? If he really was hurt over the past years than maybe he still has something in the tank. I'd really rather he just retire and let me wonder what if than have my worst fears confirmed and see him embarrased again.

Evander looked pretty good tonight. I think he would be able to mix it up with Oleg Maskaev and pull out a win , Evander matches up well in this division.
ahah well i just read an article that just came out a hour ago saying Holyfields aiming to be the only 5time HW champ? he already is the only 4 time HW champ ever. did anyone even see this fight? they said the guy was a full time insurance salesman
??

i think the only glimmer of hope and thats being VERY optamistic] is against maskaevOriginally Posted by bilbo
Just watched the fight now and, yes, Holyfield looked much sharper than in recent fights. He actually threw punches in bunches and his movement was sharp....
Of course Bates is a mere journeyman, If Evander must continue then I think he should see out the year with 4 more confidence boosters before a possible step up...
Evander being Evander will probably go for a title shot too soon and it though he might look sharp for 4 rounds, will more than likely begin to fade.......he should stay well away from Wlad, It could be very messy...
Well he threw more punches. That's reassuring. He was very accurate but he fought an inferior opponent. I doubt Evander can pull out a fight where the opposition is top ten and throw punches back. Bates was a punching bag. He landed maybe 5 punches in 2 rounds. He had no offence whatsoever.
Yeah I noticed Bates was somewhat star struck, Holyfield wanted Bates more active so he could counter, Holyfield had to be patient. I thought Evander did good overall considering a 2 year layoff. I think his chances are pretty good getting another belt, I would like to see Evander get more work . maybe knockout a couple more guys before the years end . maybe that Gutierrez guy Tua fought next.Originally Posted by sexydarin
