    Default Hello

    Hello,

I'm from Australia 15years old 184cm or 6foot something and 85Kg (sorry if you don't know the metric system)
I have now gotten realy interested in boxing probably aiming at ametuer boxing in a year or so. Their is no real chance of myself getting a trainer as the closest gym is 50minutes away.

I was wondering what equipment i would need to start getting into the right shape for boxing, my friend is also into boxing and we are splitting the costs and watching each others technique. This is the list of items i am looking at buying.
    • Heavy Bag (as heavy as i can find)
    • Floor to Ceiling Ball
    • Speed Ball with accessories
    • Medicine Ball (not sure how big)

What kind of gloves, wraps, jump rope should i be getting? And are there any good boxing videos that can help me learn?

And also any training to help my own personal physique which is basically tall, strong and solid whilst i still retain good reflexes (i'm great at videogames and am a good soccer goalie) and i also need to work on overall speed.

Fairly long post but i hope you can answer all my questions.

http://www.aussiebox.com.au/gyms_qld.html they are the only boxing gyms in my state. There is a fitness gym near my house which has a boxing room but no trainers and i am currently a member but the subscription is about to run out and i would prefer to spend $600 on my own personal boxing equipment when i can do everything fitness orientated without the gym.

Until i show some serious dedication and i mean serious i highly doubt my parents will be willing to drive me to the nearest gym so at the moment its training without a trainer.

you can take a bus to the gym instand of asking your parents to drive you..
you cant train yourself how to fight, u need a trainer to teach you that.

No, he doesn't need a trainer because he is great at video games.

I put down videogames because its a proven fact that top players have the same reaction times as olympic sprinters. So X unless there was something i missed within ur post i would appreciate it if you could just answer my questions rather than posting rubbish.

And i know it is possible to learn without a trainer, Boxerjl on these forums is doing it and is doing very well. so please answer my other questions!

Sorry, I only ever post rubbish....... and where is it a 'proven' fact that top players have reaction times of olympic sprinters?

What has that got to do with boxing, reaction times are different to reflexes.

Plus - poor example, bearing in mind the situation with Marion Jones and Justin Gatlin?

Still - liked your feisty response

effectivly defending a punch is not so much to do with quick reflexes and timing and judgement.

Do you have attention to detail? :P

Being good in goal might indicate you would be good at reading a punch though, not all that similar with having a punch thrown at you but you use some of the same qualitys.

Boxerjl is doing well for some one with out a trainer but he can only go so far doing what he is doing, you can not be a serious competative boxer Amatuer or Pro to a high level with out a trainer.

I understand that but the fact is that i won't be getting a trainer for at least a year so i am just trying to prepare, i know that i cannot become an ametuer boxer without having been taught from an experienced trainer.

If it's only a year till you cna get a trainer, don't worry about technique... you will just develop bad habbits that will make it harder for you to learn correct technique... just focus on conditioning.

Avoid trying to force an insane amount of mass on to your self, don't be afraid of gaining weight though... if you are of a slim build you will as your muscles develop.

Don't over do endurance exercises like long distance running, you need them to an extend but focus on intervals of sprints over a shorter distance, 3-4 miles... suitable for the duration and intensity of amatuer rounds.

i feel that i have probably gained the most mass that i should especially after i have also done 8 years of Rugby with the last three being in Division 1 for the age. so its probably more conditioning to tone this. Would half mile sprints be good for intensity and aim for a couple of reps be good?
