Default LOL, just to let you know....

As you might recall (the ones that read my introduction-topic a little while ago) i'm training for my first official fight on the 16th of september. Done two demo-fights so far and won both, but my opponents were pretty weak and couldn't really hit hard. And at the sparring sessions back then, i wasn't really put to the test, seeing the short time i've been taking up boxing (now almost two years, in which i could'nt train for 5 months because of breaking my right foot two times in a row).

So my trainers took the pase up a bit now, and because i was doing rather well, they decided i could spar with three experienced male fighters (two pro's and one with a long amateur record).... Well, there's an experience! The trainers wanted to see if I could also take a punch as well as giving it. The other females at our gym don't hit that hard. That is, i hardly feel what their throwing at me. I have a real hard punch, especially my right hook and left uppercut impress even most of the guys. But yesterday I got a taste of what could happen if i had to take what i give.....

So there you have it: it did'nt go that bad, the guys where a bit carefull ofcourse, and gave me a change to fight (i mean, they can easaly take me ) Sometimes i got a bit of a hard blow to the head or belly, harder than i was used to, but it was allright. Thank you, trained abs! when it happend:

Sparring with Havid, i took a step to my right, saw the hook coming, but though it was a high one, so I lifted my right hand to block it.... but it came low, right and full on the liver. WOW!!! Everything went black for a moment and my body completely stopped working. I couldn't breathe, nothing! Complete shut down of all systems!!!
The trainer was talking to me: "take five, easy does it, everything allright?" I didn't respond. I turned, grabbing a robe while thinking (and strangely enough this really went through my head) "what ever happens, you turn around RIGHT now and FIGHT! It can happen in your match and you can't take five then, so you can't take five now. FIGHT!"

So I turn around, padded Havid on the shoulder and shouted: COME ON! LET'S GO! TWO MINUTES LEFT!

With suprised faces around me, we finished the round, and when the bell sounded i stood in the middle of the ring, a bit fuzzy trying to get grips of what had happend, while getting applause from the trainers and other fighters. They were really proud of me to keep on fighting, and that was a real great sensation! And worth much, because now i know I won't panic or anything if i get a real blow. We did two more rounds after that, and everything went fine. I have to admit though, that right now, sitting at my office desk....

Don't have much energy left in my body

Well, you don't have to reply or anything to this post, just wanted to let you know

Well, your gym is probaply a bit to far away for me

And even though you are problably pulling my leg :P here's the deal:

Well, we like it, Everyone gets along real well, we support each other, pro or beginner or whatever. When you come in the gym, and you don't know anyone, you couldn't tell who is the trainer or who's not. The trainers don't put anyone ahead of another, a beginner gets about as much attention as a matchfighter, just as long as you are willing to learn.

But let me tell you a little story you might like...

Let me take you back to the end of the year 1995....
Chris and Martin, two long time (boxing)friends with long amateurcareers and a couple of years pro, take over the lessons at their gym from their trainer and owner, because of his illness.

They do so for four years, giving about 3-4 ours of training a day together, while both having a regular 40hours job, and just starting their own pro boxing career.
Due to circumstances, the gym is closed down. That was big S***, since Chris and Martin were in the middle of a trainingperiod with a couple of boxers for a championship. They were welcome at different gyms for about 1 or 2 hours week for themselves and their boxers, in return they give a couple of trainings for the gyms.

So now we're talking the end of 1999....
They get their hands on a space they can borrow from the city for about two months, just enough to get the boxers ready for their matches. But wat happens, from the different gyms where they went, people came along with Chris and Martin to their 'new' loction because they liked their training so much. We are talking about 80 people here!

Chris and Martin don't know what else to do: they don't want to dissapoint the joined people and decided to start their own gym. The city is willing to rent the place to them, and so Haagse Directe is born.

Everything is done on voluntary bases, they borrow materials, they get some sponsored materials and gyms give them some of their old stuff. They give the trainings in the eveninghours after they finished working. Training is 5 euro's, about 4 dollar, a week, if you don't train for a week, you don't have to pay. Just enough to pay the rent and pay the matches. All because of the love for the game.

We are six years further... We have now over 300 members, and in the years four more trainers have joined. Then the city lets us know that the location is to be torn down. S*** again! But the city helps out, because the work we do with problem youth and integration of foreigners. We moved to a new location just two weeks ago, totally funded by the city. The city paid 450.000 euro (about 400.000 dollars) for the new location, all materials and advanced rent.

Chris and Martin still do everything voluntarely, and the four trainers that have joined as well. They produce multiple national champions a year, both male as female. Because of the lack of time and the few hours a day the gym is open, we don't have much pro's, just a few. Main thing with us is the good sphere, the respect everyone had for one another (for example: me, a blonde female, and non-believer, boxing with a muslim man, and having the greatest time, great fun, and learning from each other).

And looking at the remarks people like you and Adam give on my posts... They train us pretty well, with the right phylosophie and methods seeing what I know with the little experience I have

So let us be weenies we know what we are doing and why. We love the game!

im impressed, it's like a fairy tale story that came true....CC
I would of thought Martin and Chris (with so many members) could make the boxing gym into a business that would produce quiet an high income.
Do you wanna turn pro KillerQueen?.......... you sound like the type of person who loves the game and is willing to go all the way, just my opinion. I guess that's not the case...
Oh i almost forgot, i was meant to put up a link on my post about my boxing gym...

    http://www.hartsboxinggym.co.uk/

Its under construction at the moment, but it'll be ready soon

Site is looking good so far! I'll check it out every now and then but do give me a sign when it's ready!

Chris and Martin could turn it into a business, but then prices will have to go up. But now everyone, also the poor people and children, can train because of the low costs. They want everyone to be able to train. Every now and then it happens that someone can't pay at all. He is allowed to train, and in return clean up the gym or do other things, till that person can pay again. It sounds ideallic, I know and it probably is. But that's our gyms' phylosophy and eh, yeah, I'm proud of that, and the boys for keeping this up.

And i'm afraid I'm not able to turn pro. I box almost for two years now, and am not a real talent. I have devotian, strenght, am not scared and according to the boys have a fighters' heart (they gave me my nick killerqueen ), that's why i'll come pretty far, but that's it. Besides, boxing here is too little for woman to get started as a pro at my age (almost 35). You'll have to be young and go abroad. It's even hard for men, boxing is just too little over here.
I'm allowed by our nations boxingfoundation to box amateur for exactly one year because of my age, starting this september with my first fight. I do plan to make the most out of it though, the boys promised to let me box as much as possible (i will fight again november). I'm aiming for the dutch amateur championship around april.

Good luck to ya KQ! Gives me some hope, I am a little younger than you and hope to start fighting next year (need to get in better shape first and other priorities right now). Glad to see on our forum.

    Thanks!
All the women here train and spar with men. It helps tremendiously! Because let's face it, men just are stronger then women, and usually are faster too. That means, that we really have to keep our defences up, always keep looking at the other one, and we're used to taking a hit. Training with men, gives us therefore lot of benefits when we fight against women who don't. And most of them don't.
