Default Fire Poll: Who should be the next opponent for the Calzaghe-Kessler winner???

This is a current poll on hbo, but i would like to see how the voters here on saddo (the most educated boxing posters in the world) would vote..

on the hbo site, the voters favor pavlik by a wide margin.. but personally i would like to see cal/kess winner fight B-hop...

what do you all think and why?

I voted Hopkins also. Pavlik needs a few defenses at Middle before jumping up.

I think if Joe wins or loses he should go after Hopkins, then retire.
If Kessler wins i'd like to see him fight the winner of Bute v Berrio to completely unify, then maybe Froch to shut him up, then Pavlik.

yah agreed...Pavlik should be estabilishing himself at middle a fight with Calzaghe or Kessler i dont think will happen...Maybe with Kessler in a few years time but deffo not Calzaghe.

The only opponent i want for Calzaghe is BHOP and after that i dont think theres anthing that could further Joes "legacy"

If Kessler wins i think he should take on Froch, i think this fight would be a good defense...but this wont happen, because who is Froch on the world boxing scene...

I voted for Taylor. As much has he'd previously pissed me off, the performance he put on against Pavlik was herioc. Pavlik should stay at Middle, while Jermain could really establish himself as a Super-Middle with a fight like this. A fight with Hopkins would be fucking boring to be honest.

How come there's no option for the winner of Vargas-Mayorga?

Anyway, I voted for the winner of Jones/Tito. This vote only applies if RJJ wins, but I expect him to do just that.

I know that the most logical vote is Hopkins, but I'd absolutely love my man Kessler to introduce himself to America by fighting Roy Jones Jr. in Vegas or Atlantic City. After that fight he could take on Hopkins in a summer megafight.

If Calzaghe wins - and I still consider him the favorite, even if I prefer Kessler - he might want to go straight after Hopkins, but I'd love to see him in with RJJ as well. And it makes more sense to do RJJ --> Hopkins, than Hopkins --> RJJ in my view.

Bute (Berrio) would be another good option, but Kessler and Palle have both indicated that they are going for the American money next. And if they are truly looking to unify all titles (which would be great, but perhaps unnecessary), then a WBA mandatory is probably first choice. Calzaghe needs neither the IBF belt, nor more defences of other straps, so there is no reason for him to stay at 168.

And Pavlik and Taylor should rematch each other before taking on other Ring champs.

It's good to hear a die hard Kessler fan keep it real.

I agree about going for Hopkins...but RJJ would be a fun watch too.

I voted for Hopkins i think the fights would be a bad stylistic match up for either Kessler or Calzaghe but i would still love to see it happen just for the rewards the winner would get it would do alot for Hopkins or Kessler or Calzaghe's career.

I think Kessler could beat Hopkins Taylor gave Hopkins trouble with his jab and Kessler has a great jab and good boxing skills i reckon Kessler could win tough decision.

Calzaghe vs Hopkins would be terrible match up stylistically Calzaghe is an unorthdox southpaw and Hopkins is unorthdox right hander = very dirty fight and very untidy fight Calzaghe would win razor thin decision i think Calzaghe would have more trouble with Hopkins than Kessler would Hopkins would rough up Calzaghe and it would be very untidy fight but i still would want to see it just because it would do wonders for both mens career's.

Agreed...& Hopkins has the right to call out either of them or anyone else at 175lbs. He handled the fwock outta Tarver & did things to Wright that no one else has been able to do.

Hopkins is the draw there...hands down.

As far as the styles thing goes...I'm more interested in seeing how one another works out the puzzles as far as their abilities & years on the mat goes.

Joe is often known for solving awkward fighters due to the fact that he's just as much of a question mark in there as the other man. Skills against speed & defense against offense would be what I want to see.

I wouldn't mind seeing Miranda in with the winner, if Hop doesn't get there 1st. Off topic I'd love to see a Miranda/Andrade fight also.

Sorry i disagree big time... hopkins for one should of been looking to fight guys like dawson or Erdei - those are the young guns and the future of the LH, he should not of been fucking about with a blown up middleweight like wright... So no, he doesn't have the right to be calling anyone out, if kessler wins fair enough, if Joe wins? balls to that, he had his chance when a win for joe would mean something, now Joe wins he will get ZERO credit... the onlything hopkins is good for right now is a payday or for a up and comer like dawson to win and get put on the main stage.

For me calzaghe needs to fight someone like pavlik or dawson, and do it in the states too.

If he can go out with lacy, kessler, pavlik and someone like dawson in his last stretch of fights it will shut just about everyone up. Hopkins will just give people another reason to call him a coward and give him no credit for another win.

Preme you talk some sence there ,
but the problem is Joe Calzaghe after 20 defences and age 35 should have already fought top names and have them on his resume.
He is now going to struggle to find the career difining fights and is running oout of time.

Personally, I think it would bring a sense of completion if the winner could fully unify with a victory against Lucian Bute, before moving on to the Light-Heavies, hopefully Hopkins. But if Kessler were to win I can see him lording it in the SMW's for a few years more before moving on up.

Hopkins is the ONLY fight Joe needs after Kessler . That would secure Joes place cuz im sure once he beats Kessler you'll still find people saying who was Kessler but if he beat Bernard then nobody can say anything .

However if he lost to a 40 plus year old then his entire career will be looked back in a Sven Otke type of way . Hed need to be at hios best vs Nard cuz his career would depend on it .
