    Default My first boxing lesson!!

Hey guys I am taking a trial boxing lesson tomorrow at a local gym, I was wondering what I need to do to prepare?!?!?
They said I will be using their gloves, but I need to bring my own handwraps, any advice?

any sports store should sell hand wraps. Get the longest you can get. I prefer ones that are slightly elastic.

Well, I'm with Adam. Just go there tomorrow, enjoy your training, and that's that. If you are used to do weightlifting, do what you do, but just a maintanance training, don't overdo. You'll see that the training will be heavy enough.

Something funny: we sometimes get blockes from fitnessggyms, with shoulders, man, so big and strong.... yummie!!! (yeah, i'm a sucker for a man with broad, muscled shoulders) but it's all worthless in boxingtraining. Their muscles get sour in about 15min. of training, just by holding their hand up to catch the hits from their trainingbuddy. It's a whole different ball game.

So don't overdo, just go, relax, enjoy and be prepared for muscle-ache :P

So I take it in the world of boxing your shoulders are sore often lol!!

I am probably getting a new job soon, so I can't make a schedule at that gym. (by appointment only)
but yeah I think once my schedule is solidified I will go back and make it part of my routine.
The trainer said I had good natural form and by that he meant bone alignment and total body movement on
my punches, which makes me nervous, I guess I want a second opinion.

thanks for the support everyone on this thread!!

Hey man, just because haven't boxed doesn't mean I'm not a fan. I love watching the sport.

I just wanna do it for fitness, I am too old to make good habits happen in boxing I think, I am 30.

Wrong!!!!! Since you've never boxed you have no bad habits and that's key. You just have to work with a guy who won't LET YOU develop bad habits and you have to be willing to listen. Swallow pride and accept the fact that you know nothing. Listen to everything he says. I'm 33, started just 6months ago, but left my ego and what I THOUGHT I knew at the door, and have since been easily forged into an efficient fighting machine! Now buy yourself a heavy bag and work diligently on your form. They say it takes 6months to get a good left hook. Through hours of throwing nothing BUT left hooks, my trainer tells me I have good power with both hands and my left hook to the body, although it doesn't exist, is deadly.
