    Default Fighting weight?

    I'm a rather stocky guy @ 5'4" and 150 body weight. My bodyfat is anywhere from I would assume 15-20% (which I'm definitely trying to cut down via boxing, cardio, calorie deficit diet, and high load strength training).

    I've always been naturally stocky, but how do I figure what my ideal fighting weight would be? I'd imagine @ 150lb. if I ever fight competitively I'd be fighting dudes much taller (with much better reach) than I.

    Also, what is the ideal or general bodyfat% that amateur and professional boxers fight @? It seems like there is a lot of weight control to keep fighters as light as possible. I was told 4-5% but that just sounds too ridiculous. That's below bodybuilder status, and they only keep that low of a bodyfat percentage a month @ the most right before a show.

    4-5% is ridiculous... the only people who get that low are pros who fight at the lowest weights and dry up for a fight 2-3 times a year.

    Not Amatuers who fight almost as often as pro spars... can't maintain it... you'll do yourself in.

    9-12% is healthy for a season

    Your coach will decide what weight to put you in at.

    how do you figuer out your body fat % exactly? it could be anything really couldn't it?

    i thought it was done by some sort of math :P like dividing your whole weight or something..i dunno

    I'm not yet thinking about competitively, but my overall fitness goal is @ 8-10%

    adam is it true as well that ur bodyfat must be under 8% to have a visible six pack its just i read tht but then i also read the average premiership footballer is around 12% body fat and most of them have visiible six packs so whos right ?

    Ye mate your thinking about body mass index which is your weight divided by your height squared. This is only a rough guide and no use if your a sportsman with heavy bones and muscle. It's used as a measurement by doctors to tell fatties that they are going to die unless they stop eating crap.
