Default Roy Jones Jr has Two Fighters on His Hit List

    http://doghouseboxing.com/Chee/Chee_101606.htm

Last week Dan Rafael of ESPN.com confirmed that Roy Jones Jr vs Peter Manfredo was being discussed by both camps. With Manfredo's win this past Saturday over Joe Spina, the possiblities of Jones vs Manfredo has grown. However Rafael also reports that whether Jones-Manfredo comes off or not, Jim Thomas, advisor to Jones Jr is also working on another fight for Jones. Thomas told ESPN that he is talking to British promoter Dennis Hobson, who promotes Clinton Woods, about a rematch between Jones and Woods.

Thomas quoted by ESPN as saying that he is talking to Showtime about televising Woods-Jones II in "a March or April
    time frame."

Thomas added that Jones would actually be willing to go to England to face Woods, but Thomas added: "but it depends on the money. I think Roy would go to the moon for enough money."

Thomas was not ruling out Manfredo, saying: "Ideally, Roy could fight Manfredo in January and then do the Clinton Woods fight on Showtime a few months later."

I hope not. Nothing against either fighter, but I dont think this fight does anything for either fighter, especially RJJ. If RJJ wins he beat a good up and coming boxer and if he loses then we know he has faded and needs to retire. If Manfredo wins he beat an old RJJ and if he loses he loses to an old RJJ. At this point I think that RJJ needs to go towards Woods, he will at least have a chance at a belt and put him back into a better position of making fights.

Manfredo vs Jones Jr is a terrible no win fight for both fighters.

If Roy even takes the fight he opens himself up to embarrasement for taking on the 'loser' of a TV reality show. Let's remember that Manfreo didn't even win the show, he got beat 3 TIMES!!!

Taking this fight from Jone's point of view is far worse than Larry Holmes fighting Butterbean.

For Manfredo he has still to build up real credibility amongst fight fans. His last two fights have been impressive but his legitimacy as a world class fighter is still very much under scrutiny.

If he were to beat Jones Jr, I really can't see boxing opinion shifting in his favour. If anything his popularity would be diminished, a reality star cashing in on his 15 minutes of fame by fighting a former, faded legend.

His victory would be seen in the same light as Trevor Berbick's over the great Ali.

For the reasons above I really hope this fight doesn't happen. Ironically if it did it could turn out to be very competative, maybe even a 50/50 fight but come on, do we have to see a fight just because it's close. I mean Audley Harrison vs Henry Cooper now would probably be a pick em fight but I don't think it would do either fighter's image much good.

Ok, so I was kidding about the last part, no way Audley even goes 12 rounds with Cooper but you get my point

For RJJ I like The fight only if it serves as a tuneup fight for a Show Down with Clinton Woods

I mean it is what it is if Roy loses then hey its all over for him...

I doubt if he beats Manfredo Roy will be celebrating like he won the SuperBowl....I'm sure he is still feeling out how he will do...Prince was a shitty Bully type pressure fighter that was trying to rough up Roy and Spook him..Manfredo is a little more refined and will pose a better technical fight...

I think Roy is just trying feel out both styles.....I mean alot of people were saying that ROy shouldnt get big fights and he has to retire or work his way up again..

I mean I look at it as a tuneup fight...I mean forget the name....I mean Shite..Ali fought Chuck Wepner for chrise sakes.....CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's more of a winning situation for Manfredo, but I agree, it's not the best fight for him. It is OK for him for a couple of reasons. First of all, he'll get HUGE payday, maybe the biggest he will ever make. Why not cash in while you can? If he loses, it's still to Roy Jones. If he wins, he beat Roy Jones, albeit an old one. Jones isn't THAT old. He's got more gas left in the tank than Ali had when he fought Berbick, and it's much more of a serious fight than Holmes v Butterbean. Manfredo will get alot of credit.

Unfortunately for Jones, he gets no credit for winning and he's done if he loses. I can't image why he would give Manfredo this fight. Maybe he likes the fight because he's scared to get him, and if he gets hit by a real LH, he's gone. Despite the seeming power increase for Manfredo since moving to SMW, he does hit like Woods or Tarver. Still, what does he gain? He must see it a tune up fight, a high profile tune up. To me, it's too dangerous for him to use Manfredo as a tune up.

right now if I'm RJJ I don't go for Manfredo, I don't gun for Calzaghe at 168.

If Roy wants to be viewed as great as he was he needs to fight Tomaz Adamek and get the 175 title and THEREFORE have a reason for Joe to move up and fight him.

Thanks bud, I also think Peter Manfredo should really focus on Kessler and Calzaghe as goals. With Freddy Roach in his corner he has looked AWESOME and I think he could now go somewhere because of the new dedication and desire he has but all that can be washed away if he loses to a has been RJJ who hasn't fought at 168 since 1996!

Manfredo needs some names on his record, gun for Bika, gun for Beyer show what you can do vs what the title holders did!!!

I think Beyer and Green are good marks... As you can see from my new pic on the left I was @ the Contender fight in Prov when Peter ripped Spina... I thought Green, who I've seen look great in the past, and was extremely excited was fighting that night, looked lack luster. I think Peter's boxing ability could lead to a deci. Revelo and him looked like they were walzing... anywho, Green or Beyer... I wouldn't have said Beyer prior to seeing how damaged he "could" be....

Tarver was nothing special, mad some what of a name for him self by KOing RJJ; Manfredo would be more known, and have more chance of landding title fights by beating RJJ... sadly..

I loved watching RJJ's fights. I used that in past tense. I hope he does the right thing and retires soon before he gets knocked out again.

Roy had better not fight fukin Peter Manfredo. Like everyone is saying, its a lose/lose situation for both guys. If Jones wants a tune up fight he should take on the other Jones, George Khalid Jones. Or another LH contender. Not a "Contender". Also Roy needs to try to avenge his loss to Johnson or whip Calzaghe, forget Woods, he nearly killed Woods when he was in his prime, no way he can beat Woods any worse than he did the first time. If anything he'll have a lot tuffer time with the guy this time around.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
