It is rubbish. I watched it years ago and sat their thinking what's this shyte? It ain't scary, it's arty artschool let's try and be as weird as we can for the sake of it.
That pretty much sums up most of David Lynch films (although I did enjoy Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet).Originally Posted by Missy
.although this film did have a purpose. Supposedly Lynch grew up in either Pittsburgh or Detroit...can't remember but anyways he loathes the mechanized world. This film was his vision of the future...a future in which everything is controlled by machines.
The creature in the begining of the film pulls the lever which controls child birth. We see the character, Jack Nance, wandering around this grim, drab, wasteland of factories.
That bird-like anamoly that is supposed to be his child is really symbolic of his male organ (if you know what I mean)...it nags at him day and night and controls his life. In the end, he kills it and is freed.
Yes it is a bit overrated, but when your in the mood for something different, it does the trick.
If this is the sort of cinema you like....and you really want to trip go seek out a movie called the Begotten by E. Elias Merhige...but if you do make sure to find a written explanation of the film afterwards because you will not understand it by just watching it.Originally Posted by oakleyno1
You may also like some of Lynch's other films like Blue Velvet...much better than Eraserhead in my book. I have to admit I was a little let down when I first watched Eraserhead six months ago. Blue Velvet features the ever entertaining Dennis Hopper in one of his better albeit shorter roles.
haha, i read lynch made the film when he found out his wife was pregnant. . . so this was his vision of the baby i dunno lol.
lynch is fucked up no doubt lmao, mullholland drive, not bad, seeing wild at heart tonihgt
but still the man must be crazy
