    Default Roy Jones

Some people seem to think he's not done, that he's a viable opponent for any good or elite fighter.

Just wondering why? Write off the second Tarver fight for discussions sake, it was a good punch that he didn't see, but I can't just erase the memory of the Johnson beatdown and the third Tarver non performance where he just solely tried to make it 12 rounds.

He's just way past it IMO. Calzaghe looked sloppy tonight but I still think putting Roy in with him would be a bad idea, not even so much because of Calzaghe but because of the type of fighter Jones is these days.

Hulk get mad at this thread, and throw things against wall, but that's not really the point, its just a discussion, why do you think he's still a viable contender? Who do you think he could beat?

    I agree completely with this

Jones Jr was a great fighter but he suffered big losses to Tarver (twice) and was stopped by Johnson. There were long gaps between each of his latest fights and his "comeback" against Prince Badi proves little IMO. At 37 his best days are behind him and Calzaghe would now beat him. A few years ago the result would have been different, but not now....

I don't think ROy Jones Jr. could be the best ever again because he lost his power... With his diminished reflexes I can't see him not getting hit if he just used his speed now that people know about his head turn when he avoids punches.

i think roy can still hang with a couple of guys if he makes some good decisions and fights safe for twelve rounds
i mean roy was THE superman of boxing! and now hes past his best.. but hes still up there with the big names and no one wants to see roy leave the game without a nice win to go out on so he can cement his legacy!
maybe its just the fans bieng optimistic and hoping he can pull of a big win before he leaves
and maybe he still does have that one last fight in him,
or maybe he should just get out the game with his health i dont know, i think winning a big fight is a must for roys legacy though!

yeh agreed clinton is still a good fight for him and it would be great to see him with the title again but im not entirely sure that would cement his legacy...
like i say with joe calzaghe when they talk about a superfight with clinton , its not a superfight its just a good fight
    same with roy,
i'll be honest i know im gona get bitched at for this but lets have it right calzaghe is good but im just not sure he's as good as everyone is saying, he just beat the hot prospect ..
i think that roy could potshot a ud out of joe still!!

Ro suffered what man fighters in the past have....He seemed to just get old over night for no reason....IMO the latest example of this was Kostya Tszyu when he fought Hatton.....Guys who don't take much abuse but lose it out of no where....IMO also a lot of Jones not being truly tested over the years has a lot to do with it...When you spend so much time fighting guy's beneath you you get rusty like a classic car that just sits and isn't started every day...Low miles perfect body but all of a sudden it doesn't run like it used to due to lack of use...Add that with the natural aging process and it isn't really all that hard to comprehend....I just wish Jones would use his head and know what is happening...He is a smart guy who has made money and a spot in the HOF on the all time list...He is a decent commentator and...Who knows he might make a good trainer...To produce a guy with half of his skills in prime would make for a successful fighter...Only time will tell I guess...But as far as boxing is concerened he should retire for good...Think about it what more is there really to accomplish?....Anything else would just detract from his career not add.....Not everyone can be Hopkins or Foreman and go on for what seems like forever

First why do ya feel the need to insult me? Have I not been cool to you since joinin this forum?
Secondly, no, Roy is not nearly what he once was, and that Johnson fight especially was just very disheartening and hard to forget. The third Tarver fight was embarrising as hell too, the way both guys fought, but especially Jones, he fought the same way almost as Joppy did Taylor. However, he showed something in his dominant win over Badi Ajamu, that he still wants to fight and is capable of doing so. I feel he would beat Calzaghe. He ain't what he used to be, but against Calzaghe, it ain't gonna matter.

Roy is still viable because the 168 lb division is rather suspect in my opinion. the depth chart is shit ! He can still beat some guys out there. I think a fight with Calzaghe would be intresting. or even against Kessler. could be very intresting and entertaining if nothing else. .
