If these two tanks with iron chins went at it who would win? The Merciless one or the Nigerian Nightmare?

Have to with Mercer - great jab and much better skills in general
Peter is one dimensional, Mercer was actually gifted - just very under trained and under motivated!

Absolutely no question about it in my mind, Peter would have no chance against a top form Mercer.. Not that he usually came to the ring as such, but say the Mercer that fought Lennox, PEter would be beaten soundly.Originally Posted by BIG H

Unfortunealy aside from the Morrison fight, I have not seen a complete fight of Mercer in his prime. I recently saw some clips of him against Holyfield on the ESPN Holyfield special, and he looked pretty good there. You guys are probably right, he would have beaten Peter, but would he have knocked him out? And would Peter have been able to hurt him?

Mercer probably had the second best chin of all the nineties heavyweights (aside from McCall)Originally Posted by Hulk

Ive never seen footage and its never added up in my mind?
Did Mercer just flop that night or was Holmes sucking on the last of his fumes?

He wasn't interested mate, didn't train, wasn't motivated - that's the way Mercer was for a lot of his career, i.e against Jesse Ferguson to name one.Originally Posted by The Grinch

Mercer very easily. He would have jabbed Peter silly and been miles ahead on the scorecards.
Ray, he'd simply take the fight to Sam Peter. Sam's power is overrated and if Ray Mercer could take a PRIME Tommy Morrison's accurate left hook and big right cross then he'd walk through anything Sam could throw at him.
Ray would also pressure Sam to the point he might be able to KO him a la the Morrison fight
Assumin g like most have already said Ray came into the fight READY to fight then he takes Peter with little difficulty.....Ra hit pretty damn hard and at his best had a chin of steel.....I don't know if he would KO Peter but a UD would easily be in the cards

good point plus mercers jab gave lewis trouble plus he took prime lewis the distance and only lost razor thin decision so i pick mercer to jab peters head off and win comfortable udOriginally Posted by DaxxKahn
Yup . No questionOriginally Posted by BIG H
I reckon Mercer was fundamentally a better all around fighter TBH . His chin was iron plus it was tucked down so if Peter cant knock him out I cant see how he could win . Mercer would win the rounds behind his left jab , better movement , better positioning / balance etc . He may even stop Sam late though Ud would be a safer bet . Mercer was dangerous when he opened up . Ask Morrisson .
I think Mercer would pull it off...he had more skill than Peter and I believe He fought better competition than Peter....Originally Posted by Hulk
