Default Was Jeff Lacy over rated to begin with??

I like Lacy,I love his style but I have a few questions I want you guys to help with...

Was Tsypko just a hard fight or is that the best of Jeff?

Was Lacy over rated in the first place?

Or he is just going through a hard time and will he fulfill his potential? What can he do differently?

I think it was a tough fight for lacy to go straight back into. I thought jeff lost by a couple of rounds on saturday night. still he got the win and gutted it out. I still think hes a lot to offer as long as he doesnt meet calzaghe again

Before Calzaghe he could box, he was strong, aggressive, and fast. Now I think hes just a broken man.

Lacy just took one of the biggest one-sided beatings ever dished out without a KO, its understandable that he wont be the same.

Its sad because he was one of the most entertaining athletes.

I don't know, he didn't look to good to me after the first two rounds, he was constantly overextending his punches and coming in off-balance. Furthermore, he wasn't pulling his punches back after he threw. Tsypko could have taken that fight if he would have capitalized on that by throwing more.

based on that fight, Lacy would lose to the following without question:

    Carl Froch
    Mikkel Kessler
    Allen Green
    Lucian Bute

Lacy is now a gatekeeper fighter rather than a contender. Was it an off-night? Maybe, but I would be inclined to say no because he really wasn't able to adjust at all. I like Lacy, he's a class guy and has a lot of heart, but after the Calazghe fight, I don't think he'll ever be the same. Lacy should be fighting Manfredo Jr. that would be a competitive fight IMO.

Of corse, but many boxing fans love the idea of a Tyson(punching power wise) type fighter....until that fighter loses and they are no longer "invinsible"

I think he looked good in the first couple of rounds but once tsypko figured lacy out he started hitting lacy with the left hand, and i think he remembered the beating he took from Calzaghe and the confidence just went from him and he doesnt have a plan B.I think Calzaghe has shown how to beat lacy and other top fighters will copy that.

I feel like Lacy looked pretty bad on Saturday in the second half of the fight. I think that he is either shot or he just does terribly against tall southpaws. That wasn't the type of guy to put him in with to build his confidence. I thought the decision was OK, but Lacy really has to work on his style. He can't just follow guys around the ring with no jab and no head movement.

What the fuck you talking about? Lacy never knew how to box. His style was power and more power. He's always been overrated. Just like Calzaghe is.

but look at round 4 onwards, his shoulder was hurt bad, he was getting a nice jab going in the first 3 rounds then went and hurt that shoulder. So effectivly a smaller guy had to use his right arm to beat a much bigger southpaw... i agree lacy didnt look to good but damn, a lil more time is needed surly - tsypko is a good fighter...

I understand what your saying but his camp has to start choosing better opponents from now on. He's got to have three or four fights that can build his confidence. He can't keep taking beatings like that without any effect on his psyche. Give him some good orthodox competition and see if he can put these guys away like he used to, work on his head movement and jab, and then he can go back up to a better level of opponent. In all honesty, Lacy's camp is the one I blame for the way his career has gone, I understand he was undefeated and the hype was crazy but he should have taken some more defenses and work on his technique more instead of running in there with JoeCal and taking that type of murderous beating. His camp is doing it again, a tall southpaw with fast hands almost put him in a bodybag, why put him in with another tall southpaw with decent handspeed right after he just took that type of beating from JoeCal? Bad decisions. He's lucky he didn't move up and fight Tarver because don't let that B-Hop fight fool you, Tarver would have knocked Lacy out cold.

Spot on snakey mate. Cool click. That really is all there is to say about him. He was never that good to begin with. People get so obsessed with finding a new Tyson and they put so much hype into someone who slightly resembles him style wise and build wise. He has heart and he's a nice enough guy. He's just not world class.

actually i think at moment that lacy would ko froch from what ive seen froch has terrible defence how would he respond if he got hit with one of lacys power punches ??

I'm not sure Lacy even hits all that hard and out of the 2 i think Froch could actually be the power puncher. Lacy has only legitamatly KO'd 1 fighter. Froch has KO'd his last 2 (including Magee who actually got robbed against tyspko). So there ya go.

Yeah, I'm not sure Lacy is the puncher he thinks he is. Knocking out Scott Pemberton early proves especially when Manfredo did the same thing.
