Default Hatton v Tzsyu – Who would have thought….

I know it’s not been that long since this fight took place, but I remember all the pre-fight build up etc.

I know not many people are going to admit to getting this prediction wrong, but I’m sure the majority went for Tzsyu.

I recall that I went for Tzsyu right up until the week before the fight, but then I bought the “Boxing News” that week and it had a BIG front page cover picture of Hatton’s face and the build up to the fight. You know how the saying goes “a picture say a thousand words” well that was it, after looking at that picture for about 5 mins, I decided there and then that Hatton would beat Tzsyu.

There was this look in his eyes that said it all!

Then there was the actual fight itself and we all know what happened there, even though I thought Hatton would win, no way in a million years did I think he would stop Tzsyu coming out for the last round. I thought it was a magnificent performance from the “Manchester Mexican”. It’s well documented that Hatton’s all-time hero is Roberto Duran and I feel Duran would have been proud of that performance, I think there were signs of the way Duran use to fight in Hatton’s performance, non-stop, relentless energy!

Personally i was convinced that Tsyzu would just add another stoppage win to his impressive record! I was veryyyy impressed with the Hitman that night though i must admit. I think he could have faught for 50 rounds he was on another level that night, possesed!

Yeah...people like to forget that fight but Hatton has the ability to be spectacular. My brother is a Tszyu fan, dad a Hatton fan. I kind of teetered on edge for a bit before finally picking Hatton. Never imagined a stoppage though.

Not to defend Mayweather as completely respectful to his opponents, but what bad words has he said to his opponents after the fight?

Yar. Hatton is my favorite fighter, bar none. Floyd (as anyone knows who has read my comments)I don't like so much. He just talks too much trash, but I have noticed that he seems to be very respectable after a fight. Maybe he just talks smack to build up hype, I dunno. My opinion about him seems to be slowly changing.

Im proud to say that i thought hatton would win at the time. i always felt that the layoffs that kostya had had in the 2 and a half years would make a difference. i think i said that for Hatton to be successful he would have to apply educated pressure. i think that have to be the tactic against mayweather too

I always thought Hatton would do it (and won a few quid from the bookies with it ) But thought it might have been a bit tougher than he made it look. But agreed it was nice to see how much respect he had for Tzsyu after.

Hatton is just that kind of guy. He was respectful even before the fight. I can't remember him ever saying anything bad about Tszyu.....Ricky is a class act as a person reguardless of anyones opinion of him as a fighter....We need more like him in the sport

It was a special night for me, and one I'll never ever forget, I'm not sure I knew he would do it, but I wanted him to so much, and I always believed he had the potential to do it, and on that night he proved it. After that performance I believed he could beat Mayweather. Nothings changed yet. No one truly knows what Hatton is capable of, and until someone beats him no one can say yet. Same goes for Mayweather.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!

I agree with you yoitsdan, if anyone was going to beat Mayweather it was Hatton - then. But that all changed after seeing the pair of them fight up at welter, Ricky struggled and hopefully he'll stay down at light welter now where I dont see anyone beating him for quite some time wheras Mayweather obviously didnt carry the same power at the higher weight but still looked comfortable and with him now stepping up again to fight De La Hoya theres no way he'll fight Hatton. Shame they didnt get it on while both at light welter but I cant see Mayweather coming back down and so I doubt they'll ever meet. So for years to come we'll probably all be wondering ...... what if?

Yeah, even though I'm not a massive Hatton fan and I don't agree with his moves since the Kostya fight, that was a simply sensational performance! I even remember the commentators saying that ALOT of peeps including experts were expecting Hatton to get blown out! Hatton destroyed Tszyu though and even though KT has been inactive etc,Ricky would beat him even if he was active,he has the right style to and honestly,he fought like a man impervious to pain! Even when Kostya did land,Hatton just walked right through it! That shocked me!

Exactly and he just doesnt seem the same at a higher weight, at light welter no matter who you put him in with Rickys always going to be the stronger man. At welter hes not able to come in bigger than his opponent and loses his abililty to bully them and control the fight, Im not saying he couldnt still make an impact at welter but at light welter he just looks unstoppable so should stay there and dominate.

Did you guys see the pictures of Hatton and Tszyu sharing a pint in Ricky's dad's pub the night after the fight? They're very friendly but both very badly marked up..... I've got photos of it somewhere...

    They're both a class act...

I agree to an extent in that he loses his physical prowess by moving up in weight but that's where the big fights are! Outside of Castillo, who else is there to fight at 140? At 147,he need not fight the wrescking machines like Margarito but he could rumble with Cotto,Mosley, guys of that ilk. I just don't see what Hatton is going to do at 140 after the Urango and Castillo fights. He bulit up momentum with KT fight, has let it slip until hopefully, the JLC fight (which I think he will win) when his momentum will be at an all time high but then what? Unify the titles at 140?
