Default Guzman beats Davis! Again, no knock out

Guzman scored a points win over Davis. Looks like this boy really has loss his power as he's moved up. I give him little to no chance against Pac

Well I mean he can always work on his defense...

Though I still side with Pac if they ever met....

according to fightnews davis was headbutting him all night and caused his eye to swell. And the good thing about Guzman is that he doesn't need power to prevail.

At the weight he's in, yes he will. Pac and Valero are just as fast. And I think they punch kind of hard. At least that's the rumor. And Guzman's defense is by no means great.

Guzman was a monster at featherweight. But his power significantly diminished when he moved up to 130. He cant knockout Manny nor outbox him. His jab isnt that hard to deal with and his defense is no wear near the defense of JMM, MAB and El Terrible. I give Valero a bigger chance of beating Pacquiao because of his sheer power. While I also think Marquez has a better chance than Barrera because of his counterpunching skills, Barrera is a great warrior who rises up to the occasion when he faces adversities. So IMO all in all, Guzman has the least chance of beating Pacquiao from the list of legit opponents

true. he needs power cuz he aint a good boxer at all.
against barios he was wide open and i can say he has
a worse defense than pac. but one thing he has is a great chin.
which i think is what valero misses. so forget valero and guzman
edging pac. right now jmm and barrera has the best chances.

but have you watched jmm against jaca? he was awesome
he was mixing it up and he is no wear near the cautious boxer he is.
maybe because he wants to put on a show for the home crowd
and boy he was exciting ala pac that time. im expecting a much different jmm
when he fights pac though. and barrera, he needs to KO pac. its just me

I would have expected Guzman to knock this guy out.

Either way, still a good fighter. I'd probably favor Pac but I think Valero wouldn't be that difficult. Too slow, too raw. He looked good in some sparring sessions but seems to have lost all that.

Me and very few guys here were saying that when almost everyone was riding on his bandwagon after the Barrios fight. Hardly anyone believed us at that time. Now I can state boldly here that there's hardly anyone at 130lbs who can beat Pac, except maybe Valero. But even in Valero's case, I'm just saying so because of his sheer power, nothing more. You know how it is, Pac's style, though it's his winning style, leaves him open sometimes and a big, big punch could be what it takes to beat him.

I agree here. Guzman would have to be on his toes all night because of pac's desire to win. Has guzman ever have came across anyone like pac before. that hand speed would be fatal in the fight. i can see guzman being caught early imo.

    At last we agree.

Guzman is very very skilled but you could have an awesome defence v Pac,but if you do not have the power to gain his respect,he's going to walk you down and walk through you. If Guzman carried his power,he would be a test for Pacman but without the power,I don 't think the defence alone is going to save him.You need a deterrent v manny and Joan does not appear to have it.

I don't think his lack of power would be the biggest problem against Pac.

He's not a big puncher at 130 but he can get respect. He did wobble Barrios more than once and Barrios has a very good chin, took Popo till the very end of the 11th to drop him. He's got enough power to keep people from just wildly charging him.

Its the fact that he doesn't always use his skill. Sometimes he gets caught up and starts looping punches, he likes to fight a bit too much at times.

If he stayed tight, fought a smart fight I think a Pac fight would be very interesting. I'm a big fan of Pac and think he's improved a lot since the JMM fight, but Guzman's got speed, skills, a good chin, and I don't think he'd be intimidated in the slightest by Pac. One of those fights that has to happen, I give Guzman a better chance at beating Pac than I do an old Barrera.

Nice points but Guzman has never daced anyone even appraoching the level of Pacquaio though, the ferocity etc and in some fights I have seen of his,he looks,I don't know, lazy?? I don't think he has enough pop to earn Manny's respect,I just don't see it. It would be an interesting fight but I'd rather see an MAB fight first and in the meantime,Joan could fight Soto or Juarez?

I wouldn't. This guy has only been knocked out at Lightweight and that was from Edner Cherry who is a huge right hand puncher at that weight so Davis may just have a good chin. Didn't people say the same thing about Shane Mosley when he fought Cruz

I think Guzman has a very good chance of beating Valero. From what I hear of that "fight of the year" that him and the other guy had Valero was knocked down and "may" have been stopped if the other guys fans hadn't thrown debris into the ring. And I looked at the guys record he isn't a big puncher but he was big enough to almost put Valero out of there. So I think Guzman stands a good chance of beating Valero.

I'm a huge fan of V Nom,but Guzman would hand his ass to him on a plate against Valero can recreate his form from sparring, which is seemingly becoming more and more unlikely. Valero,in fights, looks so raw and crude, and although he showed power and heart in his last fight against a dangerous fighter in a hostile environment, he looked so sloppy! Guzman would be too technically astute for him at this time. And unless Valero starts smarting up,he is going to get in to a big fight too soon and get beaten up.

Although I disagree Madge,Mosquera did hurt Valero but I seriously doubt he would have ko'ed him.
