I doubt they'll ever fight each other, if hopkins does go up and fight at heavy weight it'd be a huge mistake to come way back down to super middle and fight again. And if he doesnt go up and fight at heavy it kinda sounds like Hopkins is pricing himself out of a Calzaghe matchup - wanting to dictate ALL the terms of the fight and take the bigger purse for it. No way he deserves that, if they were to fight for a title at light heavy then ok maybe give B Hop the bigger split but at super middle where the fight would most likely happen Calzaghe is the champion and Hopkins the challenger and thats how they'd have to be paid.
"I'm in the top three pay-per-view fighters in the last few years as I fight people with credibility, for example Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Jermain Taylor and Antonio Tarver. I guarantee a huge audienceOf course Bernard. All those paying customers emptied their pockets to watch you, not DLH or Trinidad.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

If Calzaghe really wants to build a legacy respected on both sides of the pond I think Hopkins is the best opponent he has to go after. No one has beat Hopkins handily in a long time RJJ people will say was past it and Jermaine hasn't proven himself as a HOF quality fighter yet. Also Jermaine will still be around in a few years if Calzage wants to go after him later, same goes for Kessler. A win over Hopkins would also allow him to call out lots of people and have some bargaining power, putting Calzaghe in the drivers seat somewhat.Originally Posted by Memphis
If he really wants the big payday quickly though, I don't really know what his best option would be. Sure Hopkins wasn't the big crowd magnet against Trinidad or De La Hoya but I get the impression he could pull in some numbers in a big fight nowadays. Too bad we don't get nights like DLH-Mayweather with Hopkins-Calzaghe on the same card, that would be something for the fans.
It will never happen....Hopkins will never get in the ring with Calzaghe...

Agreed. CC. I have no doubt Bernard is better and would land a higher percentage of good shots. But he's in trouble if the judges are scoring pure activity, because joe does throw a lot of (slap) punches.Originally Posted by diamonddavestafford

The fact is that Bernard is the MUCH bigger PPV draw in the U.S., which is where the PPV dollars are. Not because he was the one selling seats against ODH and Trinidad, but because people here have actually heard of him (unlike Calzaghe), in no small part because he's actually fought big fights against big names like . . . ODH and Trinidad. Which are obviously fights in another league from fighting some hyped-up rookie like . . . .
Hatton did get more than Collazo but he did not get more than Tszyu. There was no way Tszyu would agree to fight in Hatton's home turf and get the lesser purse. Tszyu got paid a good amount more than Hatton.Originally Posted by shza
