Default Floyd Mayweather Sr,top trainer or just a top gob shite?

I have never really rated him as a trainer,I think hhis reputation has been made by his time with ODLH who lets be honest can make most trainers look good.

He seems to full of him self and him asking for 2 million for this next fight is really taken the piss.

Great fighters make there trainers great not the other way around.

    Agreed 100%.

Oscar was much greater before he hooked up with Mayweather Sr., couple that with the fact that he is the human equivalent of Mr. Hanky from South Park...well that equates to nothing more than a walking, talking, breathing, rotten turd that's needed flushing for a long time.

Honestly...if there is one reason & one reason only for me to want Floyd Jr to mop the mat with Oscar...it'd be to see him throw the palm up to his daddy.
Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!

Floyd Mayweather had done quite a job with Bojado(before Bojado went to McGirt and it fell apart from there)

Floyd Snr is done well with Oscar, and Laila Ali and he guided Floyd into what he is, but like you said great fighters make great trainers. He's also got some brilliant quotes. A recent one he made about Ricky Hatton, "He's a fucking punch bag, they should put him on a swivel,"

Not necessarily. Hasn't Emmanuel Steward made Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko better? If you don't give the trainer the credit, don't give him the blame. It isn't McGirt's fault Antonio Tarver is garbage or that Arturo Gatti's career got extended a few years by discontinuing his brawling. Freddie Roach hasn't turned Manny Pacquiao into a two-handed fighter? Noazim Richardson didn't nail everything on the head about Tarver when Hopkins dismantled him?

DLH just may be at the point where a trainer is just incidental for him. PBF certainly is after his uncle was unable to train him. But to summarily dismiss a trainer makes it seem as if anyone can do it. Certain trainers do make a difference and perhaps if DLH switched to McGirt he wouldn't be able to do the same as he can under Mayweather.

Great trainers make great fighters... Countless times talent has been mistrained, and has gone to waste. Mayweather Sr. tought Oscar how to improve his defense, and how to use his right hand. Despite his decline in speed I believe that Oscar is a better fighter than he used to be, and the only reason he lost IMO two fights with FMSR is because he was at middleweight which was too large for him against two very good fighters in Felix Sturm, and of course Bernard Hopkins. He taught Mayweather JR. how to be among the best defensive fighters ever, and more importantly his fighters come prepared, and they are focused. You never see one of his fighters come in like TOney does or Zab Judah which is perhaps the most important thing of all.

Dont get me wrong, there are some trainers that have made big differences in world title fights such as Teddy Atlas's pep talks to Michell Moorer inbetween rounds and Angelo Dundde forcing the youg Clay out in round 5 of his fight with Liston after he got partly blinded.

So yes having a good trainer is imoprtant but by and large if a boxer has the talent he will make it regardless of the trainer.

I still disagree. No great boxer has had a bad trainer. If the trainer isn't good enough then it doesn't matter how good you are. You won't be good enough. People said Roy wasn't trained properly, but he was trained very well in that he was taught to fight in a way that best suited his abilities.

Great boxers tend to find the trainer that suits there style and personality.Sombody that might be a good trainer for 1 fighter might be a nightmare for another. For example not many trainers could train Ali coz of his style of boxing.

But who ever the trainer I think natural talent will always shine through in the end.
