Default European Bantamweight Title - Maludrottu v Napa RBR

    Evning all,

Just spotted this one was on sky, so figured i'd round up what was going on. Maludrottu coming off a 3 round demolition of Damaen Kelly, after winning a very dubious first meeting between the two in Belfast.

Simone Maludrottu, Champion (24-1, 10KOs) - Has made 8 defences of the title since winning it in September 2004, including the hugely contraversial victory by UD against Damaen Kelly where everyone except the judges had the Irishman cruising by 3 or 4 rounds. The EBU ordered a rematch, held in Sardinia in November, where Maludrottu comprehensively beat Kelly, and now he's in with another Brit, Ian Napa.

Ian Napa, challenger (13-5, 0KOs) - From his record hardly looks like a big puncher, but has mixed in decent company, including points defeats to Jason Booth, Damaen Kelly and Martin Power, so perhaps is better than his record would suggest. Also has only had one fight since October 2005 which was a 6 round points win over Delroy Spencer, in November. The only card in his favour, it would seem is his hometown status, but Maludrottu seems to have the pedigree.

Show starts in around 15 minutes time, so eyes down, look in

Yeah, I reckon Moore is going to be up for some big things this year, and I hope he does really well...not going to check boxrec see what his result was, don't want to spoil the little surprise there will be.

you think he's in for a world title shot if (when)he wins tonight? don't even know who he's fighting but would have thought it will be an easyish fight after Macklin.

Napa dancing on the way into the ring, looking very confident, and taking up the applause. He seems tothink that he's some sort of gangster rapper or summat in there, cause he's talking big and can't keep still.
Maludrottu on the other hand looks focussed, and has a fair few fans in the crowd. Comes in to the riffs of Queen, so he is most certainly an European. He does look much bigger, standing four inches taller than Napa, who the commentator just informed us is the shortest pro in Britain at five foot one inches tall.

    Round 1:
Maludrottu comes in with a gentle hook for first contact after 30 secs. Napa with a couple of jabs to the body. Maludrottu with some chopping downward shots. Three hooks to the body by Napa. Good uppercut from Maludrottu, but Napa replies with some body hooks. Good right hook from Maludrottu. Body shots from Napa, but a fine right from Maludrottu catches Napa. Napa still working the body. Maludrottu has the more hurtful punches, but Napa is so quick. Good uppercut and hook from Maludrottu. Touch gloves at the bell.

Tied round for me, but depends whether you prefer workrate or damaging shots.

    Round 2:

Jabs from Napa, but Maludrottu is catching him as he looks to close the gap. Good straight right and a hook from Maludrottu. Napa swinging more hooks to the body and pushing the Italian back. Good hooks and uppercuts from Maludrottu, but Napa wanting to come forward. Straight shots from Maludrottu, Napa still swinging though, finding the guard a lot though. Good jabs and hooks from Maludrottu. Napa with bodyshots, but Maludrottu covering up. Good uppercut from Napa, and hooks to the body pushes Maludrottu back. Maludrottu with a good straight while on the ropes.

    Maludrottu showing his quality now.

    Round 3:

Jabs from Napa connect early, and as he pushes MAludrottu back, and overhand right connects well. Maludrottu pushes Napa back on the ropes and uinloads with hooks upstairs and to the body. Starting to bully Napa, but Napa comes back with body shots and Maludrottu covers up. Napa bobbing and weaving, but bod shots and a straight right connect from Maludrottu. More body shots from Napa, ad he still goes after Maludrottu. A low one from Napa on the blind side of the ref. Body shots and two uppercuts from Napa. Trying to hurt Maludrottu, but the Italian seems more amused than anything. Body shots and another good right from MAludrottu. He grins at the end of the round.

Napa on sheer effort and pushing forward ties it up.

    Round 5:

Nice hook from Maludrottu, and another pair catches Napa. Napa with an overhand left, and body hooks. Maludrottu comes back with more shots to Napa's head. Body shots again from Napa. Maludrottu swings and misses with 6 conecutive shots, but shoves Napa on the ropes, and pops to the body again with some hard shots. Maludrottu with some more chopping shots. Body shots again from Napa. Good left hook upstairs from Maludrottu. Napa hurt and more punches raining in, Napa coming back with more body hooks, lots of heart from Napa to weather that storm of big shots from Maludrottu.

    Maludrottu ties it up, 48-48
