Default Bonsante made me cry today

Just watched the Bonsante Duddy fight, and even though I knew the result before hand it still got me a bit teary eyed at the end.

Seeing his disappointment and the distress on his kids faces was really upsetting I thought.

Boxing is all about success stories and how fighters, despite being somewhat deficient in skill and ability can sometimes come through on heart and guts alone.

Well Bonsante is the kind of guy who has all the heart, determination and will in the world but it just doesn't quite happen for him.

You normally don't really notice the guys who try and reach the top and fail but the Contender brought the world's number 1 dad to our attention and I've been rooting for him ever since.

To me he's everyman, the average joe doing it for his family, not a world beater by any means but a good honest grafter who just wasn't quite good enough to make it, no matter how hard he tried.

I'm glad he went out with a gutsy performance and did himself proud but I so wish he could have done it.......

At least his kids can be really proud of their dad.

Got to agree with you Mr. Baggins. I have a ton of respect for Bonsante, he gives everything he has. For a single dad with a real full time job and trying to box competivly is no issue task. He has limited skills, but has been able to make the most out of what he has. Best of luck to the guy.

    limited skills, maybe...

but give him enough time to prepare without having to work during his preparation, give him the same materials (cardio, muscular, boxing machines), nutritionist, coach, and all that shit that Duddy has

He has kids, a work, a real work and he did an exeptional performance agaisnt someone who is totally pro and is only extra work is putting is face on tv in order to say that he's the next big thing..

Bonsante fought with what he got, but they were not equals in terms of preparation.

Duddy is good, but in his category right now ? I don't see him making it...

I might be a little bit of an asshole, but I was happy bonsante apparently got beat up.

I always found that "#1 Dad" hat arrogant. It's like, what, you saying you are a better dad then me!? (Even though Im not a dad) But anyways. I read the rbr and heard he walked into honkey tonk music. I was hoping he would get KTFO and figured if anything Duddy has some power.

For the record I don't see Duddy making it either. That was apparent to me when he fought Alfredo Cuevas. He won, but showed major flaws, up until that fight i thought he looked good. His greatest asset, his power, is there but still im surprised that that Brinkley guy could KO Bonsante and Duddy couldn't. Bad sign.

You've got the guy all wrong believe me, he isn't arrogant in the slightest. On the Contender all of the other 'stars' were talking about using the show to higlight their talent, like they were going to be the next superstar.

Bonsante was on the show purely to get a decent life for his kids. That was all that mattered to him, he kept going on about how it was his one shot.

The poor guy broke down at least once every episode and has cried at every fight I've seen him in. He just puts so much into it. He's also not got the funds to even train properly.

When he fought Ishe Smith post Contender he was being trained by a guy in his nineties who was too sickly to make it ringside, so his trainer was in the stands communicating via walkie talkie, and I'm being totally serious!

In the Duddy fight Bonsante didn't have a cutman, he couldn't afford one so his trainer had to work on the cut.

Bonsante is a legend in my book, my favourite underdog fighter.

The only time you'll ever read Bosante referred to as a legend.

I don't know, he just really irritates me
There are a lot of journey men fighters who travel the country without recognition, and there are a hell of a lot of parents out there who sacrifice a lot for their kids. It annoys me how he keeps on harping on about this.
He did it throughout the Contender (and they probably hyped it up, and there was one point where he pulled a sly one and justified it as that he was going to do whatever it takes for his kids)
If I had a daughter who was heart broken watching me taking a beating then I wouldn't put her ringside to watch me.
Life is full off problems and there is noway that he should have gotten as far in boxing as he has, he should be glad he got this chance.

Don't think that is arrogant, but I am irritated by parents going on about how much they love their kids as if they are unique among parents. Especially celebs who when interviewed about act as if they have performed a miracle (rant over )

The only "legendary" thing about this whole diatribe is the number of excuses given!

Yep, the stuff of legends, I tell you!

I he wants any chance at being "#1 Dad", he'll realize this is not the game for him, so he can keep enough of his wits to provide for his kids.

Bilbo are you on your period or something?

Just playin man. But for real, every body has their sob stories. God bless Bonsante, but he should think about his kids, and either fight lesser competition, or retire before he seriously gets hurt. How bad did he get beat up in this fight? Apparently not nearly as bad as the Green fight. But still.

I remember when he fought manfredo years back... befor the contender. He can be a dirty fighter. I think he has gotten more focused in recent years since the contender but I watched him try to body slam peter in the middle of the ring... rediculous
