Default Who's this fucking Martinez guy.

I was in the states for the past week, and I saw this guy on t.v. who was fighting in Texas. I forget his first name, but his last name was Martinez. WHen I first saw him I was like WTF why are your hands down because only a handful of fighters can do it well, and to my suprise he was really fast, his opponent seemed tough but hopelessly out classed, and Martinez stopped him with a body punch. Anyways I was really impressed, and I was wondering if any of you recognized him.

It was Sergio Martinez - http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=14429

It was Saul Roman he KO'd. Martinez is the WBC number 1 now, so Floyd Mayweather...watch out He's a pretty good fighter, a southpaw. I've only seen him against Margarito and Stone and I've read a lot about him.

Can't say I remember to much about him.

So all those times you diss Tony yet you don't even know the names on his resume.....Sergio Martinez is a click southpaw boxer who travels around the world beating fighters in their backyards and he has done it time and time again until he met Tony. It was a good fight,Martniez had his moments, looked good but Tony cut off the ring, trapped him and let his hands go. He worked the head and body and wore Martinez down. However,Sergio has continued to win fights since, and has beaten most of Europe's top fighters at the weight. I think his last fight was an eliminator for a title so hopefully will see him on the big stage soon.

Just to let you all know, in case you didn't...Martinez beating Roman was part of a WBC Light-Middleweight tournament to find a #1 contender to Floyd. The other semi is Carlos Baldomir vs. Vernon Forrest and the winner meets Martinez in a final elimanator. Boxing News reported it. Baldo vs. Forrest was pulled from the Taylor-Spinks card a few weeks ago...not sure why but the fight is still going ahead.

And again I say he is 32. Simms will probably face him anyway.

So what if he is 32?? I don't understand your point? He doesnt really war so his age shouldnt be a factor. There aren't any really hungry lions at 54 anyway. The best fighters are all in their late 20s,early 30s.

hehe it must have made El Gamo's day when he saw this thread

I bet it was an 'Earth to mother ship ' moment with him dropping everything to frantically start writing out this little devotional instruction piece lecturing us on the greatness of Tony.

Come on admit it, writing this gave you an erection didn't it :P

Although lets not get it twisted,I know Margarito is not great, far from it.He is a stylistic nightmare for most althoug Williams could be his stylistic nightmare! Yes,I admit it,it'll be a tough fight! Ill still be a fan,win lose or draw and he still beats/gives a tough fight to most of the other guys at 147. I was merely pointing out that half of the guys who dislike, nay make that 75%,don't know much about him, have only seen 1 or 2 fights and just generalise, copy others.

And I DID NOT have an erection!

It ws on the Barrea - Morales 1 undercard . I remember it well

Margarito was getting owned until Sergio Martinez ran out of gas . He had nowhere to run and Antonio piled on the pressure , got him up against the ropes and unloaded non stop power punches

I'm one of Margo's biggest critics. You're right, I don't know much about him...but I'm angered by the fact that he called out P4P best Floyd Mayweather and when Floyd didn't take the fight, Floyd gets accused of ducking him. To me it's bollocks to do that. He needs to work towards it. If he beats some names, I'll give him his props and you'll get no argument from me. But Cotto is my Bwoy...and will beat Margo when the eventually fight.

Don't forget about him being punished by the "Punisher."
