Default Just another Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Taylor Spinks/Miranda Pavlik

Once again...it's on my bruvah's from unuva muvah!

This weekend, Saturday May the 19th, 2007, should be the shoot out of all shoot outs as we hitch a ride with HBO over to the Fed-Ex Forum in Memphis. The card is loaded with knockout artists & recognized champions!

For most boxing fans, the undercard could be sorted out as the main event!

First up the undercard, if one actually wants to insult it by calling it what it is in appearance, is the return of hard hitting crowd pleaser Edison Miranda (28 wins, 1 loss, & 24 ko's) as he moves on to tackle another middleweight sensation in Kelly Pavlik (30 wins, 0 losses, & 27 ko's) in WBC Middleweight Title Eliminator match.

After totally destroying Willie Gibbs and Allan Green on "Boxing After Dark", Miranda has set the bar rather high for himself. Miranda has become the star of the middle weight division and an overnight sensation. Many say that he's the hardest-hitting fighter pound-for-pound from 160lbs to 175lbs & that he could easily rule both divisions with his jaw dropping power.

Out of his 24 stoppages, seventeen of them came in the first round & that my friends is damned impressive. Personally, I say that Miranda turns trick #25 & snuffs Pavlik out...& I really like Pavlik...we shall see.

Saturday night will be a good barometer for Miranda's abilities and future spot among the elite fighters of 160lbs. Many are writing Pavlik off, which may or may not be a mistake.

Moving on to the main Main Event.

Since this is Wacko's Drunken Round by Round & I've been drunkenly spouting off at the mouth on this thread for years...let me say this...in the most sober of fashions...the main event is bullshit!

Yepper's...you heard it first...I honestly can not believe that this fight got made...but here we sit waiting to see Jermain Taylor (26 wins, 1 draw, & 17 ko's) to see the middleweight champion defeat or be humiliated by Cory Spinks (36 wins, 3 losses, & 11 ko's) in a "championship" match up.

I could & probably should give you a big run down of this fight. I could & probably should elaborate on how this is boxing...how anything can & will happen. I could & probably should tell you how skilled they both are. I could & probably should give you the Wackster's Factors of the Fight...but truthfully...I won't...not this time, because in the end...I just can't believe that they put these two opponents together.

Personally...I hope Spinks wins the middleweight title & then Mayweather takes it from him.

Anywho...as always...the DRBR is in effect.

Use the poll above...& when Friday get's here...you have me solemn promise & permission that the flow of liquor shall engulf this glorious round by round...taking you all down with me. Heh heh heh.

    Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches!

I like Miranda by TKO in a hard fought bout.

I like Taylor by TKO as well. I will say this, if Taylor can't TKO Spinks (who was TKO'd by Zab at 147), then there are serious questions about Jermain's offensive game.

Taylor needs to come out, establish his jab, and back Spinks up. If he spends the whole night backing up and winging power shots (like he did against Ouma) then I will be very disappointed.

Nothing makes me angrier than a fighter with a great jab who refuses to use it, and that's what Taylor did in his last fight. He needs to make a statement in this fight, and it all starts with an authoritative jab.

There was really no one else for Taylor to fight that the fans would know. This is just a tune up really to face the winner of Pavlik - Miranda. So I don't mind the matchup because well....who else is there that they could reasonably pull off in such a short time frame?

As for Spinks' chances, I don't think he makes it very far. He has to come inside and out and I think he catches Spinks going out and when he does it could be good night for Spinks. I like Spinks I really do but he fought at WW just a little while ago, going against an enormous middleweight like Taylor, where there is so much distance that Spinks has to travel from the outside in, it just doesn't spell well.

Miranda - Pavlik is the real gem. Is this 10 rounds or is it 12 because it's an eliminator?

Either way, this is one of the more intriguing matchups we have. Right now I'm picking Pavlik. He has the tools to beat Miranda, and it could very well happen. But to do it he needs to stand his ground, sneak that left hook in on Miranda, follow up with that straight right of his and then circle around. Or do something to that extent. A lot of people say that you beat Miranda by keeping him outside, well I don't totally agree. He has a very tight defense on the outside, it's basically a shell it's when he is moving in and looking to make something happen where his defense opens up and that's where Pavlik is going to have to do his work. And his arsenal of punches seem to be made for a guy like Miranda but there is always that X factor of a huge Colombian power house coming at you and whether or not you can keep your poise. If he can, it very well could be a frustrating night for Miranda. I'll probably flipflop on this one a few times more before the fight happens before just flipping a damn coin. It's a pick em fight.

Well first of all to you Wacko, nice to see you on the boards, seems all to rare these days,

Regarding the undercard, well I don't really rate Miranda beyond power and I've got the feeling Pavlick will keep him on the end of his jab, pound him all night and possibly finish him in the last couple rounds.

I therefore voted Pavlick by shocking KO but honestly wouldn't even suprise me, much less shock me at all to be honest.

On to the 'main event' well I think Cory will have a spectacular 'start' providing you can count his ring entrance as a start of course.

After that it will all fall apart quickly for him and he'll be knocked out in the middle rounds.

Would like to be wrong on this one though as I've always liked Cory. He has no power, can't take a shot and can only last 8 rounds or so but he's managed to win world titles in 2 weight classes which must surely be a testament to his boxing ability, as well as being a sad indictement as to how these crappy 12 round title fights we get in the modern era just fail to seperate the men from the boys like they used to in the good old days when fights were 15 rounds and stamina and conditioning were actually important.

Nonethless he's the black Forrest Gump and I'll root for him based on that alone.

He has no chance though. At all....

Also I saw on maxboxing that Carlos Baldimor is lined up to fight Vernon Forrest on the same card, anyone able to confirm this?

I've heard nothing on Baldomir - Forrest, it's not listed on Boxrec anymore, Fightnews' calendar makes no mention of it and they definitely are not on HBO's site calendar.

Agreed completely on every point. The good thing is that I think Taylor realizes that and will make that statement this fight. Spinks is pretty slick though and might be fast enough to slip the jab but even then, the size discrepancy is going to be so big that Taylor should have plenty of time to counter Spinks as he comes inside.

    WackOff 2877....

Your boy Micks excited about this one here...... Not Spinks-Taylor.... but for Miranda vs. Pavlik and also the undercards....

I went with JT via TKO and Miranda via TKO......

Wonder how many bouts their gonna air?
    Anyone know?
Heres hoping they air at least 3.... So we could take another look at Berto....

Also credit to Pavlik for taking on this fight not many fighters wanna see Miranda in the ring right now and Pavlik stepped up to the plate and said let's do it....

    Well done for both....
If I recall correctly Lyle posted 'You dropped the bomb on me' from the Gap band prior to Miranda vs. Green.....

For this fight I'd like to present the following.....

I voted for Miranda by TKO and who cares about the main event, its a sham. I think and hope that Miranda beats Pavlik, I hope he blows him out in two rounds, but I think Pavlik is a serious threat to Miranda.
Taylor should not be fighting Spinks, I don't care how its rationalized. He should be fighting one of the two fighters on his undercard, or Winky, or someone with a chance of beating him. He's following the path carved by Calzaghe, fighting mediocore opponents that are no real threat to him, except at least Calzaghe can do it in front of 30,000 fans, which makes it a bit more understandable. I hope Spinks knocks him out cold, though I know it will never happen.

This is Taylor's second weak defense. The defense against Hopkins and Winky are stellar. And it was originally just supposed to gain him popularity by fighting the network TV star. Calzaghe has fought nobody except Lacy in 20 plus defenses. And it's obvious they're making for a Miranda - Taylor bout. Look on HBO's front page, Miranda and Taylor right there with an article about their trash talk.

    # 2879 Wack, good analysis, Taylor and DIbella are gonna get bit in the azz for trying to take on a Welterweight

I'm calling it right now.... Spinks wins via UD or SD...Total upset.  Cory is a favorite of mine and probably the most underrated  champion and fighter in Boxing. Spinks has heart, determination and a shat load of skill and fundamental technique..

Miranda is gonna tear him up like a pitbull would a chewauwauh. Pavlik is a ovehyped C level fighter taking 10 steps forward, getting in the ring with Miranda and he is gonna be pissing his pants after the 1st Miranda right that go's wizzing by head....

Hopkins (once) and Winky both beat Taylor, and now he's picking opponents like he's scared to lose. I don't doubt HBO wants a Miranda-Taylor bout, but I don't think that Taylor does. I still cannot figure out why Spinks is fighting Taylor instead of Miranda (or even Pavlik). Either one of them was obviously ready to fight on the 19th.

I picked Miranda by KO, and the Taylor fight is a sham, and I could care less.

Of course, if Spinks wins, Floyd might be the new middleweight champ.
