Default Calzaghe/Kessler in 2008 and you'll never guess who his tune up is

i was reading on ESPN.com that showtime is close or has already signed a two fight contract with Calzaghe, and well they said that most likely the Kessler fight would happen because they don't have enough $ for the fight right now, and that most likely Calzaghe's first fight back on the network would be this fall against none other than WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, with Dawson agreeing to go down to 168, sorry but Dawson as a tune up?!?!?! that's retarded

I can say confidently now there is a 0% percent chance of this happening,

No way Frank Warren lets Chad Dawson anywhere near Joe.

Joe's next fight will be Juergen Braehmer or Jean Paul Mendy, and if you havn't heard of either................exactly

wouldn't doubt it, and well IMO it would be the smarter move, Chad Dawson is no tune up fight, it's a mega fight, and well was just saying what i read on espn.com

Wow if this is true? This is amazing but Dawson is a slick boxer, dangerous fight imo, very dangerous, but i think this is a great match up, but why would Chad who is the WBC 175 Champ go donw to fight Joe for the WBO Strap?

I fI was Dawson I'd want the other champions at 175 especially the winner of Hopkins Wright and Antonio Tarver. Surely a fight with Roy Jones Jr would be both easier to arrange and make more sense for Chad Dawson.

I don't see what he gains moving down for a career defining fight when he's only just started his career proper.

Go after Hopkins who surely won't be around for much longer, and Jones Jr. Dawson is American after all and those two names will mean a whole lot more to the American audience than Calzaghe.

    Here' s the article.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...dan&id=2927585

Now that HBO's exclusive negotiating window to land a potential super middleweight summit between champions Joe Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) and Mikkel Kessler (39-0, 29 KOs) has expired, rival Showtime is making a move on the fight.

Before Calzaghe jumped to HBO last fall, Calzaghe's American TV home was Showtime, which is interested in bringing the Welsh star back.

Showtime has offered Calzaghe a two-fight contract. If the deal is made, the first bout would come this fall with the Kessler fight coming in the first quarter of 2008. The primary reason Showtime would wait until next year for the Kessler bout is because the fight's price -- organizers want $5 million for it from a U.S. network -- does not fit into the network's remaining 2007 budget.

Showtime would like Calzaghe's interim bout to come against light heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson, who would drop down to 168 pounds. Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com his side is willing to make the fight. Shaw is also talking to Showtime about Dawson in a light heavyweight defense against former champ Antonio Tarver on Sept. 29.

"Showtime made a very aggressive offer so we're confident there will at least be a fight for Joe [in 2007]," said Jay Larkin, the former Showtime boxing chief now serving as Calzaghe promoter Frank Warren's U.S. representative.

Larkin said although they are talking to Showtime, they also continue talking to HBO about Calzaghe-Kessler for the fall without an interim bout. Larkin said Calzaghe badly wants to fight Kessler and doesn't want to put the fight off until next year.

"Talks are going on amicably and we are waiting for their response," Larkin said of HBO.

HBO would like to make Calzaghe-Kessler in the fall, but the network and promoters are apart on money.

HBO could be waiting to see what happens with heavyweight titlist Wladimir Klitschko in his Saturday fight against Lamon Brewster before committing so much money to Calzaghe-Kessler. The network has Klitschko under contract and if he wins and fights again this year, it will be a drain on the budget. If Klitschko opts not to fight again in the fall, it could free up money to go toward Calzaghe-Kessler.

No one from 160-175 will beat either Kessler or Calzaghe

Having them fight anyone else but eachother is ridiculous..

Especially since Calzaghe breaks his hands every time he fights..

Beating Dawson would only postpone the Kessler fight even longer..

Dawson looked good against Adamek, as long as the pole hadn't turned up, but please remember what a little polish pressure did to young Chad..

Calzaghe and Kessler will destroy yet another American hype job
Super Middleweight also acknowledge as Kessler's Kingdom when Calzaghe has retire

It seems like it's either Calzaghe-Kessler or Calzaghe-Dawson. No way Calzaghe and Warren let that happen. It'll be Calzaghe-Danilo Haussler this September. Watch.

This would be very dangerous for Calzaghe.Would make a good fight tho but its no warm up against a young and hungry WBC champ.
