Hi.
Instead of doing roadwork, or on alternate roadwork days, would swimming be a good cross trainer?

Well Juan Diaz does swimming primarily and he's known for stamina, so based on that i'd say YES!
swimming is great cross training. i would def. still make it a point to put miles in on the ground because roadwork plays a key role in getting your legs strong enough to not wither when you get dinged hard in the right spots, but if you can swim well and develop yourself with that then i would do it. personally, i never learned how to swim so i cant really benefit from it.
Find a space in the pool where the water comes up to your chin. Then run on the spot great cardio workout see if you can do 20 minutes, doubt it.
Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....

aqua jogging can be a brilliant workout, especially if you have any knee problems or anything like that.Originally Posted by Scrap

You have to be a very competent swimmer to really get the most out of pool work though.
Knowledge is Power
I swim for cross training and it has helped me build strength and flexibility also more than I anticipated. great for the back and upper body.
I joined a club which is casual enough to not overshadow my boxing but still teaches me good technique and has me pushing hard in sprints occasionally.
Learning all the strokes makes for a nice well rounded impact free workout. Love it![]()

Ohhhh baby water. I will tell yeah 1-hit wonder is right... if youre familiar with the different strokes (good tv show by the way) you can get an excellent workout. I havent tried running in the pool yet as Scrap recommends but sounds like a killer workout. Butterfly was my favorite stroke, and if you can get the form down, the kicks are great for the stomach and it really stretches out the shoulders. Another thing our coach made us to way back in high school to strengthen the legs was tread water holding one of those large water jug partially filled above our heads. Man I hated that.
