Default Gavin Rees rated 5th best Light-Welter in the World by Ring Magazine!

    http://www.frankwarren.tv/drill/News...ng-top-10.html

An article from his promoter's website, but it appears that Gavin Rees has caught the eye of observers over the pond with his dominant win over Souleymane M'baye. Whilst most people agree that M'baye was there for the taking, and Rees has fought no-one else of consequence, it certainly is an achievement to get ranked by Ring Magazine, which most every boxing fan recognises as a bible of boxing.

I think The Ring has lost the plot to be honest. Their rankings have all been a bit wack recently, I prefer boxrec's now.

Maskaev number 3 heavyweight in the world Rees 5th best welter

The governing bodies rankings ain't much worse than this

M,Baye was ranked #5 coming in so Rees just took over his place. Moving everyone down one & pushing out the man that could only manage a draw with M'Baye... Kotelnik.

If Soulyman M'Baye was in the 5th spot then The Ring have no choice but to put him there. Just don't expect him to be there long

Whoever compiled this month's list has just won the "how to make yourself look ridiculous in one easy move" award.

I've said it before and recieved my sad clicks for it,the Ring is totally over rated. They have good ideas in the one belt per division and no sanctioning fees but to the average fan,it does not exist and even to some professionals like George Foreman,it has limited meaning(I remember him on numerous ocassions talking about the WBA,WBC etc having more meaning as they are visible titles). And having checked out their latest rankings,I have to say,it looks just as messed up as other rankings

    1 1 447 FLOYD MAYWEATHER Welterweight
    2 2 190 MANNY PACQUIAO Jr. Lightweight
    3 3 81 RAFAEL MARQUEZ Jr. Featherweight
4 4 19 JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ Jr. Lightweight
    5 6 59 BERNARD HOPKINS Lt. Heavyweight
    6 5 172 WINKY WRIGHT Middleweight
    7 7 73 JOE CALZAGHE Super Middleweight
    8 9 113 RICKY HATTON Jr. Welterweight
9 8 390 MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA Jr. Lightweight
    10 10 7 MIGUEL COTTO Welterweight

Also of note in the division rankings:

Enzo Maccarinelli stays at 5 at cruiser despite beating Wayne Braithwaite.
Gavin Rees debuts at 4 at light welter, Mbaye drops 1 to 5th. Still no Ricardo Torres??

I don't see how the heck MAB can still be there. No JT?Not sure about Cotto just yet,one more decent win does it for me though.

wowee we are almost in complete agreement Gamo

Personally I don't disagree with Barrera in the top 10, he's only lost one fight recently to Marquez and that was pretty close, much closer than the official scores anyhow. Prior to that he was in the rIng's top 4 or 5. It suprises me more that they managed to somehow remove Jermain Taylor from the list completely despite the fact he won his last two and that B Hop managed to go beack up to number 5 BEFORE he beat Winky. It was completely bizarre how without even fighting he got himself back into the top 10, and also R Marquez somehow leapfrogged Winky just BEFORE Winky lost to B Hop even though neither fighter had fought in a few months

Personally the only ratings I trust are my own.

    1. Mayweather
    2. Pacquaio
    3. R Marquez
    4. B Hop
    5. J M Marquez
    6. Taylor
    7. Calzaghe
    8. Wright
    9. Hatton
    10. Barrera

Sorry, just one minor correction there bill-boh, how can the WBA light-welter champion not be ranked above the IBO world champion.

Or in other words....the whole situation is f***ed up.

All the rankings and ratings are a load of bollocks including The Rings.

Askeveryone to compile their P4P lists and all you end up with is the same names in slightly different orders.

dunno why you keep being shocked at Jt notbeing in peoplesl's list's? he can barley beat guys who fought at welter and LMW, and looks shit in the ring, he shouldn't be in anyones top 20 just yet...

Erm Preme, may be Im shocked because he has 2 wins over B Hop who is number 5 and a draw with Winky who is number 6? 2 wins and a draw against 2 defensive masters, and guys who have been P4P for a while and JT does not make P4P?? Those 2 names on his resume are as good as anyone else names on other resumes. Sure he looked bad v Spinks and Ouma but he won.Simple as.

I'd tend to agree with you, however I think it is a question of on what criteria you judge the p4p status. If you look at it recently, B-Hop has beaten Tarver and Wright, whilst Taylor has struggled with Spinks and Ouma. For me I don't think Barrera should be in the p4p list any more, because he hasn't performed at the top level for a few years now, although he looked OK against JMM. I think Barrera is in there simply because of his pedigree, rather than where he ranks among his peers on current form.
