    Default Cristian Mijares

His next fighter doesnt really look the best, can somebody please tell me how hes getting a shot? Hes 16-7 from France and hes called Franck Gorjux.

Looks like a bad move for him after such a good win over Arce. He fought a bum last time out as well, lets hope this isnt a regular thing because he the best in the devision IMO.

lol somehow Gavin Rees managed to fight for a world title too. Sometimes you can get away with the most ridiculous voluntary defenses. Blame the damn WBC.

Rees at least had an undefated record, some justification why he should have a shot, this guy has nearly lost as many as he has won and hes fighting the best in the weight class!!!

Well at the expense of sounding like a little man hater, there just isn't that much competition at these weights as hardly any adult men weight that little.

It's not me just look at the facts. Boxrec counts 1280 pro welterweights, 1162 heavies and 1010 middleweights,

Now lets look at the tiny weights, straweight 238 pro fighters, junior flyweight 413, flyweight 580, super flyweight 479.

So basically there's 3 times the competition at welterweight than there is at superflyweight which is why 16-7 chumps continue to get title shots.

I know El Gamo or CutMeMick will tell me how wrong I am and 'Big' Dan McCarthy will probably give me the finger but those are the undisputable facts as printed by boxrec

I guess he is just taking some stay busy fights. As for your boxrecc stas Bilbo,Boxrec isn't exactly a place renowned for it's high quality reliable information is it? And even if those number are correct, stats can be easily manipulated. There are lots and lots of good fighters at Mijares weight.

I just feel that he can get a better oppanent that this bum from France. He is going to get beaten brutaly and its just unfair. I cant see how the WBC can even consider this fight to take place. Mijares should fight at least somebody in the top 10 not top 100. Its just odd really.

How can boxrec 'manipulate' the fact that there three times more professional fighters fighting at welterweight than there are at flyweight?

It's simply an undiputable fact that there is more competition at the higher weights as the vast majority of adult men weigh over 9 1/2 stone.

You can't manipulate demographics and facts, but at the same time, it doesn't mask tin-can matchmaking. 115lbs still has plenty of talent to choose from.

Kind of, but whereas in the welterweight division a record of 16-7 would see you as a journeyman fighting 8 rounders on the undercard of a Peter Manfredo fight a 16-7 record at flyweight can see you as champion of Malaysia or something. Just check the records of some of these little men, and you notice two things, one they routinely fight domestic rivals two or three times as it's hard to find competition, and two you are ranked well within the top 10 of your country as soon as you turn pro. The UK's smallest fighter Ian Napa at 5 ft 1 in actually campaigns at bantamweight as there are no UK boxers at all in the four divisions below him. He has a record of 14-6 which at any higher weight would be pretty mediocre yet he's the current British Bantamweight champion and has had losing bids for the European title, the Commonwealth title, a previous British title shot and has fought for the WBU title.

    I rest my case.

Also take into consideration the gene pool in which Napa is placed, you don't get a lot of 5ft 1' brits, in large parts of the world it is a much more average size. There's never been a Mexican heavyweight champion. There's more sides to the story Bilbo.

Yes but still overall there are three times as many boxers competing at the weight divisions of welterweight and above than there are bantamweight and below. As for straweights, there are around 6 times more pro welters.

I agree there is still talent in these divisions but it's still easier for a little guy to get a world title shot than a guy at a more competitive weight as evidenced by this 16-7 opponent for Mijares.

By the way in womens boxing I imgaine it probably works the opposite way with much more competition around the bantamweight and featherweight divisions than at the heavier weights.

    Heres some real interesting facts.
For every 50 good posters here at Saddos theres 1 hobbit.

Divide the number of memebers by 50 and you get hundreds of hobbits.
Now I know someone on here will try and tell me wrong but those are undisputable facts as printed by SaddoBoxing.
