    Default Clash of Styles

No doubt this topic has been done before......but

In my anticipation of the upcoming Hatton/Mayweather fight I have been looking back on several other historical bouts which will live on in the memory forever. It is interesting to note, that nearly all of the fights i considered or rather all of the fights which were impressive and entertaining enough to stand out from the crowd were the resultant of a classic Clash of styles.
A classic Boxer vs. an aggresive puncher.
(Note: the fights quality obviously was governed by the quality of both fighters.)
    Here are some of the fights that really stand out in my memory;
Julio Caesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor 1
    Erik Morales vs. Wayne McCullough
Roberto Duran vs. Sugar Ray Leonard 1
Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Jake La Motta 6
Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali 1,2&3
    Joe Calzaghe vs. Jeff Lacy
    Nigel Benn vs. Chris Eubank
Marco Antonio Barerra vs. Erik Morales
    Barry McGuigan vs. Pedroza.
    Ken Buchanan vs. Roberto Duran.
Anyone else care to suggest any other fights as i would like to obtain more fights of this pedigree.

I'm sorry mate but Eubank was not a classic boxer he was awkward and threw a right cross like he was swatting a fly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i agree, i went out of context there im sorry. He wasn't a classic boxer, but was a "boxer," in the sense that he attempted to uses strategy and technique before blunt force, but ur right not a Classic boxer.

Can ya think of anymore good fights for me Al? Im thinkin of makin this weekend a boxing weekend for myself

Maybe the best analogy is Chavez v Sweatpea Whittiker ,Hatton fights a bit like Chavez and Mayweather may not be a lefftie but is defensively great and slippery.
    Agree ??

Robinson vs Basilio....that's the match up that I think is as close as you can get for Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton.

...granted I doubt Ricky will win but he'll show a ton of heart as always...I want Ricky to win but oh well

Yep as experts said it was like watching mozart when Arguello boxed or something similar to that if Mick reads this thread he can tell you the exact quote.

    Ya i heard that:
Alexis was to boxing what Mozart was to music, what Rembrandt was to painting...So on.
And to cap it all off he's a good guy, did a lot for poor kids in his hometown.

Arguello could be one of the most accurate punchers of all time. If he wanted a punch to land, it would land and that is part of the shock factor that goes along with the Pryor bout. Punches did land and Pryor walked through them.

Arguello could have fought 100 years from now and still been one of the greatest ever. Just a timeless boxer, awesome boxer and very much out of the South American mould.
