Once again the weekend is upon us & once again the liquor is ready to flow as we settle in on the couch for fight night & Wacko's Drunken Round by Round!
Finally big Sam has an opponent...or better let's just say that he's finally got a fight...or better yet...let's just say that wer'e finally going to get to see him in the ring again after a looooooooong long time.
Samuel "the Nigerian Nightmare" Peter (29 fights with 28 wins, 1 loss, & 22 ko's) vs Jameel "Big Time" McCline (48 fights, 38 wins, 7 losses, 3 draws, & 23 ko's) at the Madison Square Garden in New York City for the WBC Heavyweight title.
IWO, Peter's one of the most deserving of the heavyweights out there right now due to the fact that fought two back to back bouts with heavyweight James Toney for the rights to challenge the WBC Heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev.
Sam Peter won the first bout over Toney shockingly by a split decision; but Toney & company raised more stink than elephant shit & the WBC ordered a rematch. Peter's camp was enraged as were many boxing fans on both sides of each fighter...but come January 6, 2007, a different Samuel Peter entered the ring.
This time Peter defeated Toney handily & quite skillfully by unanimous decision. Shocking pundits & fans & also stamping the win of the first fight in everyone's mind!
If memory serves correct...Peter beat Toney by some 8 points on all cards.
Finally it was on to the title shot sgainst Maskaev. Vitali Klitschko threw his name into the pot & stirred up a heap of trouble & legal battles kept the "Nigerian Nightmare" out of the ring for the better part of the year. Peter refused the more than generous 2 million step aside money & was set to fight Maskaev on October 6 2007.
Maskaev then pulled out of the fight with an injury and Peter became the WBC heavyweight champion...& here we are.
The list of opponents for Samuel Peter since Maskaev's injury has been astounding. Golota, Ruiz, McBride, & now McCline all were vying to face him...either they see something beatable in the young nigerian or theyr'e all high on crack!
Either way...I can't wait to see him in the ring again. Everyone that knows Wacko knows that I've been lauding him as the next big thing & everyone tried to write him off after losing to Wlad...I just hope that the layoff hasn't hurt him.
All that being said…I encourage you once again to join me…live & direct from the couch as we break out the chips & salsa, toss aside that remote, crack open the caps, & pour up your beverage of choice as we settle in for some couch coverage…it’s time for yet another installment of Wacko’s Drunken Round by Round.
As always…I say to thee…cheers…& koneecheewah bitches.
