I am looking to get some 14 or 16 oz sparring gloves and keep my 12 oz for bag work.

I saw some mexican gloves, the brand is Casanova which look pretty good and I have heard good things about them. The thing is, they dont have the thumb attached. As a trainer, would you object if someone was sparring in your gym with unattached thumbs?

Yes I would,not even because of something purposeful,but an accidental eye gouge and I could be out a fighter
