    From fightfan.com

    Edison 'Pantera' Miranda! [Exclusive Interview]
    By Ivan "LatinoPorVida" Montiel

FightFan.com's Ivan Montiel caught up with world title contender Edison Miranda to talk about his recent fight, Jean Pascal, Lacy vs Manfredo, and much much more. Don’t miss this one, only on FightFan.com!

    November 26, 2007

IM: First of all I would like to congratulate you on your most recent win a couple of weeks ago against Henry Porras. Although I have not seen the fight yet, I heard you stopped the Costa Rican fighter in the fifth round.

EM: I came out victorious as always, everything went good thank God. I am currently training for my next fight, hopefully it will be against Pascal. It should be a great fight for Puerto Rico, America, Canada and my country Colombia!

IM: Which leads me to ask you what really happened between you and Pascal? I myself feel this fight would be an exciting fight in Canada. I am hoping this fight does take place. As a matter of fact, I heard Pascal was taunting you for a fight.

EM: Pascal was at my last fight provoking me, but you know I'm a boxer with too much experience. I already have a name in boxing and feel Pascal is looking to make a name for himself. My fans know who I am, HBO knows me, Espn knows me, most people in boxing pretty well know who Edison Miranda is and although I lost to Kelly Pavlik, like many great fighters have lost before, I must say that fight was a mistake, not to take anything away from Pavlik. I just have to face the truth, Pavlik won and I simply have to continue training as I always do. I am now at a different weight where I feel comfortable as I continue doing my job. At 168 I feel like when I first began my boxing career which was at 160. I don't have to lose too much weight, I feel stronger, I am now starting my boxing career all over again and feeling real good at 168.

IM: Let's just say you and Jean Pascal don't meet for some reason, what other fights would you consider? Perhaps a rematch against Arthur Abraham since you wanted that rematch before?

EM: The truth is, I have never wanted that rematch against Arthur Abraham. I will say one thing, since the start of my boxing career I have never been favoured, there are fighters who have had easy opponents, such as Jermain Taylor. His promoters, manager...his team has always looked for easy opponents, fighters with no power. However, I have never had that protection and I can name you my last five opponents such as: Willie Gibbs, Howard Eastman, Arthur Abraham, Allan Green and Kelly Pavlik. Imagine that, just look at those rivals, also Sherwin Davis, I have never been protected. I have fought which ever fighter they put in front of me and I am not picking Pascal, Hopkins, Taylor, Lacy...but I am willing to fight against any of these fighters named! I am here to please my fans which is why my fans are always supporting me because my fans know I always step into the ring no matter what and that makes them happy!

IM: I have noticed that you're willing to fight anybody, anywhere, anytime!

EM: I have never said I won't fight, last year I fought Howard Eastman, I also fought against Arthur Abraham in Germany and ended the year in Miami against Willie Gibbs. This year I fought Allan Green back in March and was right there for Green, then came May which was a short time in between, five to six weeks, it was hard to make the weight as I tried to prepare myself from March until May. I was there for Kelly Pavlik, I felt the worst ever but I was there seven rounds going to war and I kept getting up because that's what my fans want to see which is why I have won so many fans over!

IM: What a fight it was! Although you lost to Pavlik, you showed the heart of a warrior, you gave your fans an exciting fight!

EM: I believe I have fans everywhere, all over the world and I would love to get the Canadian fans rooting for me which is why I am willing to fight Jean Pascal in Canada, I really don't care which hometown. I have gone to Germany against Abraham, but Canada is even closer - I should let you know I will be in Canada next month for Pascal's next fight because honestly I have never seen Pascal fight before. I don't even know who Pascal is, I only heard of Pascal a month ago since his name has been recently mentioned but I don't know who he is.

IM: Jean Pascal is a rising star in boxing...

EM: I feel Pascal is trying to make a name for himself, so let me ask you this question, do you think Edison Miranda is someone who Pascal can make a name from?

IM: I believe so, I mean you are an exciting fighter, boxing fans always want to see Miranda which is why I feel a fight between you and Pascal taking place in Canada would be great!

EM: (laughs) Maybe on the night of the fight his name can get either more exposure to boxing or simply die for ever!

IM: Well hopefully that fight does take place!

EM: God is whom leads the way. You know, when I lost to Pavlik people would ask me whether or not I felt down and I would say, "What about the times I knocked out the rest of my opponents, sending them to the hospital? The time I beat Allan Green, he must have felt down and out.." But then again, God knows what to do. God says if it's one way or another and no matter what I may think or want that's just the way it shall be when God says so.

IM: I did notice something wrong in your fight against Pavlik, something just was not right, I heard you had weight problems...

EM: The truth is, I weighed 207 pounds before that fight and had to shed 47 pounds in five and a half weeks, which was too much weight for 160. When I first went down to 140 with seven pounds to make, I just couldn't anymore, I was dead, I couldn't. I fainted three times trying to make the weight. I had to try the sauna because I didn't have the strength to throw punches, that's what occured.

IM: It must have been hard I know, but let me ask you about Jeff Lacy versus Peter Manfredo Jr, in their upcoming fight next month, will you be willing to fight the winner?

EM: Well, as I mentioned before, I am not picking opponents, HBO, Espn...my team decides. If they say they have an opponent for me, I will be ready to fight because I never back down from a fight. I will fight anybody, I want the fans to continue watching boxing which means one great fighter against another great fighter, that's what the boxing fans pay for and I would like the Canadian public to get the opportunity to see Miranda fight some quality opponents. I am going to be in Canada watching Pascal come December 7th, once again I have never seen him fight before, but since some people say he is very good, well I am also very good so let's give this fight to the fans then!

IM: As a matter of fact, I happen to be a fan of yours therefore I hope this fight happens!

EM: Well I hope you won't pay to see me so I can personally give you a ticket to come watch me fight against Pascal!

IM: (laughs) Even better then, maybe I will see you in Montreal, Quebec, I really hope this fight happens! In closing, what would you want to say to all your fans out there?

EM: First of all, I would like to thank all my fans because even though I lost to Pavlik my fans didn't give up on me. My fans have faith in me which gives me strength. I am back, I have returned, and I am more dangerous than ever! Thanks for all the support!

IM: Thank you Edison Miranda, we'll talk again soon on FightFan.com!

Funny how the interviewer said he "noticed something wrong" in the Pavlik fight. I noticed it too: he got his a## beat!! I actually look forward to Pavlik moving up to 168 so he can beat him again. Maybe if they fight again he'll take Pavlik a little more seriously, just like Pavlik's last victim should have. If anyone has weight issues Pavlik does. He looks like a branch with gloves on.

I dunno, i kinda belive some of it cause miranda did look really weak then again most have against pavlik so far. I look forward to seeing him in some more big fights down the road but training and weight issues to me anyhow are not an excuse kelly was ready miranda should have been as well.

It was a nice interview and you make some joke out of it.
They will fight again someday and there is no way Pavlik will do the same against a healthy Miranda. Could he win, of course. But it would be a whole different fight.
To me Pavlik has proven a lot, but he still has a lot of question marks. I could see him getting completly embarrassed against a guy like Calzaghe.
It will be an interesting 2008. Pavlik could be make himself a household name if he has another great year.

Nobody like excuses. But you gotta feel for Edison after fighing Abraham, Gibbs, Green and Pavlik all in less than 8 months. When have you ever heard of a professional at that level fight so often against the top guys? Maybe it was bad management. Who knows. But in this case you can't blame the guy for wanting something so bad he kept on fighting until he got himself sick.

O.k. Pantera, fair enough. I do tend to joke about things too much, bad habit. It was a good interview, and I wasn't necessarily making fun of the interview, just the interviewer who semed to want to take credit from Pavlik, just like people want to take away from him for his win over Taylor. Sure there's question marks about Pavlik, who doesn't have them? But to be fair I'd say there are just as many for Miranda{and Taylor} as there are for Pavlik. Sorry bro', this is where we'll disagree, but Pavlik will beat Miranda 10 out of 10 times, and if he doesn't, you won't see me disappear after the fight. I'll give Pantera{you and Miranda} props. If Miranda had weight issues then he walked into a landmine taking that Pavlik fight, and credit to him in the interview he at least gave credit to Kelly. More people this year are more interested in talking about why these 2 guys lost to Pavlik than they are giving Pavlik credit for doing to 2 guys what no one else had done. Somebody better have an answer to the marks about Pavlik or they'll get the same. Yes I'm a big Pavlik fan, and a big Miranda fan, but I don't ride nuts. Peace dude

I agree with you more than you think bro.....like you said though after fights i hate excuses, if you are passing out damn near dying to make weight the smart thing to do is postpone i know fans and fighters hate it but hey if what he says is true then we got robbed out of a better fight and miranda robbed himself out of a chance to beat pavlik and maybe taylor who knows not to mention how unsafe it is in this sport to go into the ring not as close to %100 as possible. There was a very short time between fights so it makes me wonder is all. But both guys have had trouble making weight so i can't force myself to give miranda a pass on this one. I think miranda looked way way past pavlik figured %100 or not he'd win and gambled wrong. I'd like to see them fight again but i'd also like to see him get back in with abraham. His run before the pavlik fight was impressive at least to me so i'm with ya all the way there.

You say a lot of truth there and I respect you for it. I am close to the Miranda camp, so maybe I am blind and maybe I do ride his nuts. But I was there in Memphis and personally saw what Edison went through to make this fight happen. It is a shame it went down the way it did. I would of rather him been himself and gotten his ass beaten. And that is the exact reason I hope there is a rematch soon. I want to be satisfied one way or the other who is the better fighter. Miranda stock plummeted from the Pavlik KO. To me, it was just a setback and he will be back on top. But to most people he has a lot to prove and many doubters. He is more hungry than ever, and IMO will make a lot of noise at SWM.

He did look past Pavlik, no doubt. He was told from one of his best friends, Fulgencio Zuniga, that Pavlik was going to be an easy fight for him, that he would easily KO him in 3-4 rounds. Miranda did not train as hard. He looked at this fight as another day in the gym before he got to Taylor. He was asked BY HBO to take the Pavlik fight with short notice. His team wanted to push it back, but he insisted he would be ready.

And you are very right. He screwed over all of his fans by getting into that ring and not being prepared. He admits it and says it was a hurtful learning experience. And I think that is why HBO will want the rematch sometime in the near future, to give us fans what we should have had in May.

Miranda stock plummeted from the Pavlik KO. To me, it was just a setback and he will be back on top. But to most people he has a lot to prove and many doubters. He is more hungry than ever, and IMO will make a lot of noise at SWM.
I totally disagree Miranda was dominated there should be no rematch at all and he won't do anything at SMW either.

Guess it didn't work out that way We'll see what he says when Pavlik moves up and beats him like a drum at 168. Thanks for the Sad Click, here's one from me
It was a nice interview and you make some joke out of it.
Peace dude

You say a lot of truth there and I respect you for it. I am close to the Miranda camp, so maybe I am blind and maybe I do ride his nuts. Why? He has one 'true' loss on his record against the current undisputed MW champ?
He made huge noise at MW. I see no reason why he won't get to the top and fight for a title at SMW.

Thanks and I turned your SC into a CC . If the weight issue is true, then a rematch would be a war, though it will be at 168 if Pav moves up. Miranda's stock may have dropped in some people's eyes, but not mine. Though I don't like hearing excuses{a fight is a fight and a loss a loss}, I have several times said how Miranda showed no quit in him, none, and to me that says it all about a fighter. He got beat bad and never gave up, so if they fight again it won't be pretty. But Pavlik has had issues making 160 also, so fair play. Anyways, good luck to Miranda and no hard feelings Pantera
